Samantha Fallon, owner of the San Jose House Hotel and millinery shop, Tombstone, Arizona, 1879. She has metallic cartridges on her belt. Rifle has exposed hammer & 2 triggers. Barrel looks *huge*. Receiver looks like falling block, perhaps, but trigger guard does not. Over under? Pepper box? Very heavy barrel? If the latter, looks far too heavy for her to hold offhand...

Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

Looks like a Sharps with a set trigger and one large octagonal barrel. Remember, shooting sticks were in vogue back then for long range shooting. If you Google her name, other threads come up and consensus is a Sharps.

@The Goose
Have you ever seen a heavy barrel sharps like that? ;)
Nope, but I know they were sometimes customized and the set trigger and falling block fit. Maybe a heavy barrel for a sharpshooter/trickshot. And it doesn't look like a dual barrel, that wouldn't work well with a falling block anyway.

What do you think it is, I admit I could be wrong but I'm close and the logic fits. Do you know what it is, or are you just trolling?

It’s an 1874 Sharps with about a 2” diameter barrel on it. The octagonal barrel gives it lines that make it look like a double barrel.
They made some super heavy profiles for target and I’m sure for hunting. When you touch off a 45-120 you don’t want the gun jumping around.

Thanks guys. I had no idea they put such heavy barrels on a Sharps. The cartridges on her belt seem kind of slender, considering. Seems like a lot of barrel weight for such a small lady.

I did google around, but it's hard to trust some folks on the internet, so I came here for reliable info. Works every time. Thanks!

No idea what's going on with this particular photo, but back then an AWFUL lot of photographs were staged, with props that didn't belong to the subject.

That belt, the cartridges in it, and the rifle might not have anything to do with her daily life. Or with each other.

Sharps Shiloh rifle...... Most likely a 45-70 but could be a custom Shiloh too...( Note the Crescent Butt-plate) they didn't come with a Crescent stock butt-plate. ... Could be a Shutzen type stock OR a Shutzen Rifle ( they were similar to the Sharps Shiloh Receiver ) with the tips of the stock ground down to accommodate her shoulder....

Yea, this is it! The receiver had me confused till I saw this pic. The receiver in the video had a long side, this one is short sided. Add in the large octagon barrel and what I believe is a ramrod on the underside, and it is a match.
The side of the receiver had me questioning it as well. Until I realized they are the same, it's just a difference between left and right side. The video and the picture are the same gun, different furniture but same receiver.
