I'm torn between a Sig 229 and Sig 239. Please only discuss these two as my next gun will be a Sig. Don't recommend a Glock, I hate Glocks (they're great guns, They just feel like shit in my hands(plus I think they're grossly overrated))

I like the looks of the 229 better (rail, and it just looks badass)
I like the capacity of the 229 better.

It will be a concealed carry gun though and I know the 239 would conceal a lot better, but 7 round capacity? Don't know if it's worth it.

Thoughts?

I have two P229s and like this particular gun a lot. To me (and this is very subjective) it is a bit big for easy concealed carry.

I have shot some P239s and like the way they shoot. To me, this would be a better concealed carry gun, but unfortunately it does not do anything that my Glock 26 does not do, sometimes better. But then it does have more capacity than a j-frame which I also carry (most of the time).

For general purpose use I suggest the 229, but if you are going to carry concealed, the 239 is probably the better way to go. It all depends upon you in the end however.

I absolutely vote 229. Here's why. First, I own them both. The 239, even in 9 is a handful. It is accurate and light but not quite light enough to make it a breakthrough worth dropping your midsize carry gun. The P229 on the other hand, makes quick work of the .40, conceals easily and is actually fun to shoot.

Thanks Duke. That's the way I'm leaning. I carry a fullsize M&P40 now and it conceals decently (very easily under cool weather clothes). This 229 is a little shorter but a tiny bit wider. I'll have to try shooting both to make a determination i guess.

The P239 is going to be a little bit easier to carry, mainly because it's slightly
thinner and the OAL of the gun is shorter by a tad.

The P229 is going to have more capacity (12 round prebans) and less muzzle
flip. (Although this is very subjective... )

FWIW I don't see the point of the rail unless you are actually gonna attach something to it or are really hung up on the asthetics. (frankly, I think railed sigs are a lot uglier, but that's me) You could save yourself some cake by
getting a used P229 w/o rail and use the $100-150 or so bucks to buy mags, holster, etc.

You will need a good belt and holster to carry either of these without getting annoyed, though. The P229 is gonna be about 30+ ounces fully loaded, and the P239 won't be that far behind. Don't skimp here or you
will get annoyed.

I used to carry both (9mm P239 was kinda my first carry gun, and I used to carry my .40 P229 in the winter) I still have both but now I always carry something plastic framed because I like not lugging around that extra
5+ ounces of steel, and the guns are usually thinner. (I pretty much carry a .40 S+W HK P2000 year round now... )

I concur with Mike but I have noticed that it's becoming harder and harder to find 229 without rail, indeed almost any recent Sig without a rail is rare since they made them standard a few years ago.

I have both the 229 and 239. With that being said, the 239 is slimmer, the edges are smoother and carries better than almostall of my other guns. In fact, it is the gun I go to first. My 239 is chambered in .357SIG which for is is phenominally acurate.
I do carry my 229, just not as often and comfortably as the 239.
Good luck on your decision!

Ya, I'm hung up on the aesthetics. Stupid I know. I like the look of the rail. I have a good belt, and an MTAC iwb, so I'd probably just order the kydex part for whatever I go with.

The gun will be primarily carry, but obviously I want to get a lot of range time in with whatever I carry. No point in carrying something if you're not a good shot with it.

Damn, maybe I'll get both.

Also on my list (probably when I get back from ireland in April) is a S&W .357 snubby (airweight). It's the only gun I could conceal at work (a victim disarmament zone).
