For reasons passinng understanding, tyoe has shrunk in size, as have, apparently, my arms.

3 for $3 cheaters are my new friend.

Last night a fellow NESer showed me a great trick for "emergency vision": a DIY pinhole vision enhancer, that requires nothing.

Make a really tight "OK" sign, and look through the resulting hole - if it's tight enough.....it works.

[laugh]

That's a great trick!

Works by removing spherical aberration, and increases depth of field, at the expense of brightness...

I discovered this when shooting my buddies garand!

Targets beyond 50 yards get pretty blurry. When I looked through the aperture sight, I could see every line and almost read the numbers on the rings on a 8x11 target.

Works surprisingly well.

I figured it out at 6th grade before I had to get prescription glasses for myopia. Necessity was a great teacher.

I thought everybody else knew. [laugh]

You can even get pin hole glasses. I've been using the pin hole theory for years and it does work.

It reduces not only spherical, but all aberrations which have a pupil-dependency.

Google Camera Obscura. A pinhole was the first man-made device used to form an optical image.

Never heard of it, it works great. But does this mean I could have some surgery or something down to my eyes and be able to read again? Or maybe some pinhole contacts? [grin]

Pinholes do magic for visual acuity and when mounted on Rx or even plain safety glasses, all elements in the line of sight are in focus at any distance. The EyePal® Peep Sighting System is approved for CMP NRA National Trophy Pistol and Rifle Match competition. We are co-sponsors at Camp Perry as well. EyePal is there solving all kinds of vision challenges as there is no lens that can produce Depth of Field. Designed and engineered for archers and iron-sight shooters. The simplest approach does the best job and it uses an aperture, just like in a camera. Check out http://EyePalUSA.comfor our Holiday offer and get a "Lincoln" back in your wallet. Seeing is believing.

I used to let friends shoot a Mauser and try and hit the targets with a min range of 200M and peep sights, not to mention the recoil, working the bolt and using stripper clips. "This is what the Germans had."

Then I'd let them shoot the Garand. "This isn't fair!"
