i know a guy selling an ak47, he texted me this pic last night. he is asking $950 for everything....it comes with 5 30rd mags, 800rds in a ammo can, a sling, and the ak. he said it's a "WARSAW"... which, i assume he's referiring to a WASR, right? i am not familiar with ak's so i'm just wondering if you guys can give me some insight. i am wanting to buy an ak soon, so this got my attention. should i ask him what model it is?? (not sure if there are different models even avail). should i ask the year?? country of origin?? just wondering if it's worth what he's asking, and what i should watch out for. from my calculation, he has about $250 in ammo and mags, so it ends up translating to like $700 for the ak itself.

I have single single stack wars 10 forms 495-695 out there. If it is in fact a romanian Wasr 10 people used to buy these for under 400 for what thats worth. For me personally I find $700 for the rifle a tad high, but it seems double stack wars 10's are harder and harder to come buy. But for 900 you could buy a really good ak, then add mags and ammo n(obviously spending more). As Im sure your aware Wasr 10's have a history of happy sloppy magazines, canted from sites they are def. not the cadilac of a k47.

thanks. these are the types of things i have no idea about. i was thinking about going to check it out, what price should i throw at him? or should i just look in another direction??

and can you show me an example of a "really good ak" in this price range please??

I would say though for the availability of the double stack Wasr10 right now he is not abnormally high, just if it is a War 10 I think you could do better in terms of quality. I don't know where you are from but I would check out a place like gfa arms tech in natick, ma they have a good supply. Christ there is a group buy going on for 7.62x39 model sagas on here for around 300 bucks, buy the parts do the conversion you have your self a hell of a reliable ak for under 600 I bet.

You can buy a Saiga 7.62x39 and do the pistol grip conversion. It'll cost you about 500 total at the most. And then you have a Russian made AK.

i like the wood furniture though, all i see for Saiga's are all black with polymer/composite stocks. can u do wood on saiga's?

here's an easy way of determining the package value of a all inclusive sale like this: search the internet.

judging from the super low resolution picture that might as well be an image of his cock, I'm guessing that it's what everyone calls a Genuine AK-47:

WASR10: $500

AK Magazine: $75 for 4 preban mags
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=273054332

800 rounds of 7.62x39: $200
www.commoninternetknowledge.com

That totals $775, without even trying to search for any deals what-so-ever.

Is that more or less than $950?

sorry if this is a serious NOOB question, but how do i tell if it's a single or double stack? is this pertaining to the mag configuration??

The single stack wasr 10 are only capable of taking a 10 or 5 round mag, a 20 or 30 rounder won't fit in them. The mag well is too narrow. Most of what's available in mass for was r 10 right now are single stack versions.

Judging by the photos it is a double stack since he has the 30 rounders in there. As far as the package I would go back and offer $750-$800. By my estimates that would be a reasonable price assuming the WASR isn't beat up and the ammo is something decent.

thank you....i know the pic doesn't show detail, but i figured it was enough to at least give a slight idea of what we are dealing with here. maybe i'll talk to him in the $700 range, if he's willing. i will search for more examples to prove it's value, but i just didn't want to start searching and throwing numbers at him until i knew what i was talking about and looking for.

I would run, not walk, away from that deal. It's overpriced, for one. It's $700 bucks worth of stuff for $900.

i just found out the ammo is wolf non-corrosive type. he also says it only has 200 rounds through it (he bought 1000, only shot 200) and it's in excellent condition.

but it comes with a sling! a sling damn it!

Dont let your zeal for an AK make you do something foolish. There are better ways to set $200 on fire. You WILL own an AK, you WILL love it. Just probably not this one.

assuming its a WASR10. Didnt see a dimple in the mag well, but its hard to tell with that picture. If it were some other variety, it may be worth the ask.

i'm texting him as we type here....he says it is a WASR10, he bought it new in box, it was military surplus, and is MA compliant.

then the rifle itself is around 500 +/-. Dont forget, guns - in most if not all cases - are fungible commodities and subject to simple supply and demand price forces.

The sad part is the price has gone up on the was r 10 but the quality hasn't, the double stacks in mass just Are not available as they once were.

Won't find a WASR 10 with mag dimples. These were all made to accept single stack mags in the ban era and many were dremeled out to accept double stack mags later. (like mine) this is why alot have the wobble issue. All that being said they still fire just fine and if you check them out you can find one that does not have a canted sight or wobble like I did. Still wouldn't go over 700. Out of the six mags I have only one has slight wobble and my polymer Tapco mag fits snugger then the mags in my AR.

Yea, sorry - I meant I couldnt not see a dimple - either way, you got it. Incidentally, you can add a small shim of steel on the inside of the receiver in the mag well to get rid of mag wobble. Eitehr welded or JB weld it in place will work.

well, i just saw it in person, definatley wouldn't spend more than $500, lol!!! the wood was beat, the metal and barrel were all beat....don't know how he figured it was in excellant condition...so the search continues.
