info on this ak47...is it worth it??

well, i just saw it in person, definatley wouldn't spend more than $500, lol!!! the wood was beat, the metal and barrel were all beat....don't know how he figured it was in excellant condition...so the search continues.

WASR wood finish is poor no matter how you slice it... unless someone refinished it themselves.

WASR metallic finish is black oxide - the Romanian kind. This means that it'll scratch easy no matter what. So when it gets handled for 922(r) and magwell conversion at Century Arms, it will get marked. Most of them look like they've been handled as a result.

So, next time you go to see a WASR, temper your expectations. They shouldn't be that high. Now, this is not saying that you can't pretty it up: a few thin coats of rustoleum black appliance epoxy on the metal and then baking it will turn up a great finish. Sanding and refinishing the wood is also quite common. It's very easy and cheap to do.

i think i want to get in on the saiga, with a pistol grip conversion and russian red furniture. i checked out the group buy thread, but it doesn't seem like there is a pending order at this point.

Call b and k in natick talk to Brian I think it is, he might not be able to do the group buy price but I bet if you mention the group buy he might still get you a good price.

Yeap, that is what I did with mine, the wood finishes pretty easily. I sprayed it with a water-based satin finish.
