Is a EDG destined to be beatup?

Just started to carry and I've been reading up on general gun care. More or less it seems to be 2 rules, unholster the gun and wipe it down, every night. Looking in the FS forum I see pistols that "have been carried for 3 years, 90% condition." I realize that the 90% is a claim, but I was wondering how do keep the condition up my EDG(s)?

Is holster choice (cowhide/horsehide/kydex) going to have a larger impact than just the normal wear and tear of carrying it? Or do people assume EDG's just have more wear and tear and don't worry about the condition?

FWIW, I carry IWB at 4 o'clock but plan to conceal OWB during fall/winter with a slightly larger pistol.
I use a High Noon Mr Softy for a small 380 (added a small piece of leather as a slide guard) and a Kholster for a Glock 26. Comfortwise they both seem fine, but I have nothing to compare them to since this is new to me.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
BNS

Your carry gun will take more of a beating, and holster wear is normal. Kydex is rougher on guns than leather, I believe, as it gives less. I think a worn gun has some nice character to it.

I wouldn't worry about the condition, assuming it is just wear.

Over time, I think leather may actually cause more wear than Kydex, because with Kydex the wear is limited to a few specific areas.
