Is it legal to store ammo on a shotgun card holder woth an FID card?

Im trying to find the best way to have my firearm ready for self defense. I always have a cable lock and a soft case. I'm planning on keeping the ammo in the same container or on an Esstac holder unless that is a violation of MA laws? Also when I transport the Shotgun in a trunk, I don't need to have it locked correct? Could it ever be used as a last resort for self defense even with an FID Card outside of the home legally? I'm hoping to get my LTC soon to avoid all of this nonsense.

I sure hope not. I couldn't think of anything more stupid than putting ammo in a strong, sealed container.

A trunk is a locked container if you can’t access it from the passenger compartment (fold down rear seat from inside).

I can’t see a reasonable self defense situation where you go to your locked trunk, retrieve a shotgun, and use it. Doesn’t matter LTC or FID.

You can transport an unloaded standard capacity shotgun inside the passenger compartment of your vehicle and it doesn't even need to be in a locked case.

The locked case requirements during transport are for high cap rifles and shotguns.

Remember that if you park your vehicle and leave it now your not transporting your storing them and the laws change lol.

When i transport my hunting shotguns to and from the field they are unloaded in a soft case tossed on the back seat of my truck. Perfectly legal.

Hi get your LTC and stop worrying, plus once you have the LTC it might be better to own a handgun or 2 or 3 or 20. My guns are locked up but are loaded, round in the chamber, ready to go. Otherwise owning a gun is pointless.

There are the laws of man, and the laws of God. Only you can decide if it is worth breaking the laws of man.

Consider that lethal self defense, regardless of the permit in your wallet, should only be considered if failure to act will result in someone being killed, do you really care?

Let's say there is a neighborhood bbq going on and your wife and kids are attending, three doors down. You told your wife that you will be right over as soon as you feed and let the dog out. You are throwing a couple of beers in a cooler and getting ready to walk out the door when you hear gun fire and screams from the party.
Are you really going to stop and think "Damn, it's too bad I only have an LTC..."

There are some things in this world worth going to jail for. And even if you have an LTC, you might still go to jail.
