I am thinking about getting a side arm, something for carry but I want to be able to shoot enough with it to get proficient.

Is there a weapon out there in .40 that I could get conversion kits for to shoot 9mm and 22lr?

if not what sidearms can I get that will at least do either .40 and 9mm or .40 and 22lr

Don't bother with a .40 just stick with a 9mm, your wallet will thank you later. Glocks and Sigs in .40 readily convert back and forth but I would never run them in 9mm in "trust my life to the gun" purposes.

There are conversions available for Glocks, Berettas, and 1911s that I know of. I believe there is a Sig kit as well.

grab a glock 23. 40 cal for carry and toss in a lonewolf 9mm barrel to $ave at the range. i'm planning on this for my glock22 that has become my "house gun" because i love to shoot the glock but .40 gets pricey fast. theres a guy at my club who has a extended & ported 9mm bbl on his glock and its ridiculously fast and accurate.

Glock 29 with a 40 cal conversion barrel for practice.

Nothing like 11 rounds of 10mm and a 20 round back up mag. [devil2]

I want to be able to afford to practice 45 gets expensive, I figure 9mm would allow a high power practice and the .22 would allow for lots of trigger time. the .40 would be the carry round

I would just get a Glock 17 or 19. There's really no compelling reason to shoot .40 instead of 9.

Yeah, the only reason I shoot 40 right now, is because it is cheaper then 10mm to practice with. I would take 9mm over 40 if I had to choose.

9mm is enough for carry. Just get a 9mm and forget about conversion between 9mm and 40.

do you really have to go there w/ this thread? lol! i carry 9mm more than anything now but .40 is a better defensive round statistically. that doesnt mean the 9mm is insufficient and the op stated a dual purpose/cal. changing glock from .40 to 9mm takes less time than loading a magazine w/ the rounds.

Maybe in armchair world these "statistics" hold weight, but in reality both are good rounds. Needless to say, I would look more into a 9mm 1911 frame, and possibly look into getting a .22lr conversion kit. That way the 9mm guys will feel better about themselves, the .45 guys won't shit a brick because they'll see the 1911, and the .22 guys...honestly who cares about the .22 guys, but your wallet will thank you. It might even get you another gun as a gift.

The Sig p250 is a modular platform. The only thing missing is the 22lr kit.

Ill leave out my opinions on manufacturer, caliber or modular platforms.

Lol. If you were that worried about the difference in stopping power between 9mm and .40 you would carry .357 mag or 10mm.

frankly I wouldn't want to get shot with any of the rounds be it .22lr, .380 9mm, 10mm, .40 .45 etc... guess I need to go out a shoot some glocks again, maybe look into the Sig too anyone want to lend me a 23 [smile]

It is quite germane to the topic at hand.

Oh? And what statistics are you going to show? "One-shot stop" claptrap?

easy there guys, i carry a 9mm more than anything else and think its a great round. i grew up around guys who say anything that isnt a .45 is a pea shooter and i couldnt disagree more with them. try google if you want to look up ballistic info on a .40 vs 9mm or search the thousands of threads that have gone down this road. everyone has opinions & mine is if the op is trying to find a dependable pistol that could easily change calibers for whatever reason, the glocks are hard to beat. i think there are even .22 kits for them but i havent used one 1st hand.

You said:

but .40 is a better defensive round statistically.

And now you won't back that up? I can look at ballistic information all day, but that is simply weight, bullet drop, muzzle energy, etc., and has limited bearing on actual performance -- two cartridges with identical ballistics can perform quite differently.

If it is just your opinion, then simply state that, rather than trying to support it with non-existent statistics.

.40 has slightly better wounding capabilities. that said, i have no interest in getting into a 9mm vs .40 argument w/ someone who obviously wants to argue it. you have your opinion and i'll have mine (and physics lol). I CARRY THE 9MM more than anything and AGREE with you that the difference is minimal. i have personally seen what a 9mm vs .40 would do and yes there is a difference. a well placed modern defensive round(s) of ANY caliber will serve the purpose of self defense. but thats not what this thread is about and i'm sorry its going down this road.

The OP is looking for advice. I gave it to him.

There is NO compelling reason to get into shooting .40, except in something chambered in 10mm.

Chances are, the OP is going to get into shooting 9mm, and stick with it. A true 9mm will be light years ahead of anything converted to 9mm.

op. btw a 9mm glock vs a .40 glock is virtually identical pistol and hardly lightyears ahead of a .40 converted to 9mm for range. try one.
