I am in the market for a new 22 rifle and find most of them to be made for averaged sized people (duh). I am not averaged sized and am looking for a stock with longer pull for my larger frame. Any suggestions? Prefer semi auto but open to everything. Thanks

I shoot a Ruger 10/22 with a extended recoil pad.

Do you find the stock is too short? Then try this extended recoil pad. Pad fits Ruger 10/22, 96/22, 96/17, and Mini-14/30 rifles. Made of a non slip material that adds approximately 1 inch to the overall length of the standard rifle stock. Easy installation as there is no fitting required. Uses the original butt plate screws to install. No gunsmithing required.

how about a remington speedmaster 552 ? I only suggest this because I have one that maybe for sale soon. it shoots shorts, long & LR semi auto.

The Savage Bolt action is a great rifle. I have a 10/22 and yes its fun but if you are looking for a full size rifle without having to spend a ton take a look at the Savage. They make a heavy barrel version that is very nice and is a tack driver out of the box. No fancy trigger replacements or barrel exchanges. I am not a 10/22 hater just not as fond of them as some folks are. Again they are a great rifle to plink away and shoot a ton of 22 rounds with.

I bought my 10/22 at the Marlboro show for 75 bucks. Cracked stock and broken scope screws. I bought an inexpressive stock and fixed the scope mount and it's fun....but.

OK I can feel the 10/22 guys getting ready to pounce.[laugh]

I think we are in the minority here 50bmg. I also prefer many other .22 rifles over the 10/22. I have a bunch of different ones and my first gun ever a Sears Ranger is more accurate than the 10/22. A friend in HS offered to trade me his 10/22 for it many years ago but I wouldn't budge.

Nice long .22's i have besides the Sears bolt:

Winchester model 190 semi tube fed.
Springfield Savage model 187h semi tube fed.
Stevens Savage model 87D semi tube fed.

I have others but those are shorter barrels and overall feel on the stock.

With the exception of one Ruger most modern .22's are 39" long or so.

Mossberg 44US was available from CMP and they're out there for not too many $$. It was a WWII trainer and is thus almost the size of an M1 Garand.

  • Barrel: 13/16" heavy-type, 26" long with crowned muzzle, chambered for .22 cal. long rifle. Magazine will handle .22 cal short, .22 cal long, and .22 cal long rifle.
  • Stock: Walnut-finish Birch stock 31" long, corrugated steel butt plate and front and rear swivels.
  • Sights: S-122 hooded front blade sight (later changed to plain blade); either Lyman 57MS (SN 100,001-114,500) or Mossberg S-100 receiver peep (SN 114,501-165,648) or Mossberg S-133 receiver peep (SN undetermined).
  • Length: 43" Overall (a Garand is 43.5")
  • Weight: 8 1/2 lbs.
Some question that weight, I'll have to put mine on a postal scale. It shoots very well, with CCI Standard Velocity it shoots 5/8" groups no problem. Maybe better if I put it in actual sandbags.

Bought this for $75, a brand new stock for $25, new machined trigger guard, hooded front sight $18, magazine $35.

At Four Seasons they have a whole rack of .22 rifles so you can scope them out. A rifle like the Savage MK II is 39.5".
