I bought a Gen 4 G17 from a guy I shoot IDPA/USPSA style club matches with, he's seriously competitive, had already tinkered with this gun a bit and it felt right when I test fired it.
I bought it because it's a bit smaller than my G34 and "because I wanted it"...
Anyhow, I've been shooting it at least once a week for the last six months to really get used to it, and I like it a lot. It's one of my daily carry guns because it's got a great grip/feel, points easily/accurately and goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Yeah, your basic Glock attributes.
I put the extended slide release on it, the extended takedown lever, and the extended magazine release when I first bought it. Same thing I did to the G34 and I like them.
I just put TRUglo Tritium/Fiber Optic Sights on this gun and they're amazing. Bright GREEN in the daytime, (two on the rear, one on the front), and three reasonably visible white dots at night. I really like these sights.
The other thing I did was to replace the factory guide rod and recoil spring assembly with a tungsten one which is substantially heavier. The concept is that the weight will help tame the muzzle rise. Shooting double taps this past weekend, it does seem to help. I'm sure that the purists among us will be offended, but I'll take the mechanical advantage...
Sights and guide rod came from GlockStore, sights were TRU01 for 81.99, guide rod is T9078BK for 84.95
