What do you use to get rid of light rust that dont harm the firearm. light steel wool and wd- 40? wanted to ask before I start messing things up.

Soft cotton cloth and gun oil. Or a CLP product with the soft cotton cloth. Both have worked for me.

if you must use use steel wool - use the 0000 stuff at most. Go easy, you may end up mucking the finish. Not to mention you may embed the steel in the metal of the gun and ultimately make it worse.

Otherwise a cotton t-shirt is a good material.

I think Birchwood Casey makes gun wipes that work well for that, WD-40, Break-Free etc... with a soft cloth works too. I have AC's in both rooms I keep my gun safes in, but I still have to do light rust maintenance here and there.

Are they in a safe with a lightbulb or other dehumidifier?
I would use a cotton cloth/t-shirt with Kroil or CLP. Do not use WD-40 as it is a water displacer.

If necessary use the bronze wool as mentioned. We use that here if need be.

No dehumidifier or lightbulb.
Some old Hoppes #9 and a few old socks with holes on them went a long way. When I got into it the rust it was not as bad as it looked it worked out ok thanks for the tips all.

+1 on bronze wool. Another tip...bronze wool (medium) wrapped around an old nylon bore brush works very well for de-leading barrels. I run that thru a few times dry before my cleaning routine w/ Hoppes or CLP. Much more economical than bronze brushes b/c you can just wrap more wool until you get the perfect level of friction for lead removal.
