Looking for a new carry gun

[smile] I am taking a trip up to A & G in lowel to possibly check out M&P 357 Sig - compacts they have advertised.

I'm not sure if it's availalbe to Ma**h***s yet, but they have them advertised on their website.

I've had ZERO problems with my M&P9 compact.

Another thing I wanted to mention is that the triggers vary between the full size and compact M&P's. search the threads here...

My 9c's trigger is around 7(ish) pounds... I got it new and did NOT have work on it.

Really? I'm gonna have to check on that. Is the capacity of the compact still 10+1?

http://www.derrprecision.com/ Greg Derr is in Marshfield, MA. I believe he changes about $60 for an M&P trigger job. I shot my friend's M&P 9c before and after, and Greg does great work. My friend's trigger went from 15+lbs to about 4.5. The reset seems shorter and crisper also. It's still no 1911 trigger, but it's the next best thing.

To answer your other question, the 40/357sig compacts hold 10 everywhere. The 9 compacts hold 12 in free states. Converting between 40 and 357Sig is just a barrel swap, but last I checked (a few months ago), the barrels weren't available separately yet.

I'll back what jay_chris said. I have the M&P Full size in 9mm and a compact in 40 for ccw. The trigger on my full size was absolute crap when I bought it. I dropped it off with Greg Derr and he did a great job cleaning it up. I have to say though that it still doesn't match the trigger on my compact. For some reason it came clean, light and crisp out of the box and still shoots better than my fullsize.

Thanks for the info jar and jneumann. The trigger was the only problem I found with the M&P. If the trigger mechanism on the compacts differs, it may be enough to swing my decision. Even if I decide to go the other route, I'm still going to look into the Derr trigger job for my full size. Is there anyone in the Worcester area with a compact M&P .40 that would be willing to let me try it out? I will supply the ammo.
