Hi all-

I'd like to see if some people might be able to throw out a recommendation or two for a new addition to my collection. I'm looking for a gun that'll be a workhorse-something that will be my new range gun and will handle 10's of thousands of rounds without me having to worry about putting too much wear and tear on it. Here are my requirements:
  1. Must be 9mm
  2. Must be MA compliant (not in the "oh you can get anything you want in MA, you just have to know the right people" wink wink, type of MA compliant, but in the truest sense of the idea of MA compliant.
  3. Must be full-size
  4. Preferable if it has a rail
  5. Preferable if it is a Sig-I can get a 50% discount on Sigs, but it's not a requirement.
  6. Price-wise I'd be looking in the 1k range, plus or minus

1911's are fine. Something not 1911 is fine too. Even open to revolvers.

Thanks all.

Perhaps stating the obvious, but - Sig P226.
1.) Check
2.) Check
3.) Check
4.) Check
5.) Check
6.) Check for the non-special ones

ETA: I really love mine, it's my favorite handgun.

I have a beater, S&W M&P 9 Has about 3000 -4000+ rounds thru her in the last 3 to 4 years that I used to teach my older kids and has been cleaned maybe 2years ago that I use still once a month or so and works every time with no flaws

The MA compliant thing kind of narrows things down. All the stuff I would pick are kind of out just from that stipulation.

FNX 9 ( Great gun.. no prebans exist)
MP 9 ( No prebans exist )
Beretta 92 ( Not bad with some mods )
Sig 226 ( Most overrated gun on the list, not a fan )
USP 9 ( After some trigger work these are great )
HK VP9 ( Great gun.. No prebans)
SR9 ( Rubbish IMO and no prebans )
Canik TP9 ( Great gun and the cheapest by a good amount )

CZ, Glock or High End 1911 in 9mm would be my choice.. but those don't meet your requirements.

Sticking to your list Id go Beretta 92 or a USP 9mm

A Beretta 92 or M9 will take anything you can give it. Great quality for <$600.00. You can buy spare parts and assesories all over the WWW.

Not sure how it fits in the OPs requirements, but a 92 will need its locking block replaced a couple of times in 10s of thousands of rounds (most likely).

You can get 50% off Sigs and still need our advice on what to buy?
Right? My choices would have narrowed to p226, p229, Sig 1911 right there

I can and have used the discount for other sigs that serve other purposes. It's not necessarily a "no-brainer" as I want something that's going to fit what I'm looking for. If it happens to be a Sig, then great, I'm happy to save $500. But if people felt strongly about a different gun, I'm happy to spend the money on another gun/brand, if it gets good recommendations, knowing my wants.
But it does sound like the 226 is getting good feedback, so that's certainly a bonus.

My suggestion would be to get a Sig 229. Smaller than the 226, but equally as good. I think it balances better then the 226 and is easier to shoot. The best part about Sig guns is that it's very easy to get conversion barrels if you later want to try a different caliber. My suggestion would be to get a 229 in 40 S&W. I know it's not your preferred caliber, but you can easily change that.

You can go online and through many reputable vendors buy a 9mm and 357 Sig conversion barrels for it. I bought a drop barrels in 9mm from Barsto and a 357 Sig barrel from Lone Wolf. Also, the 357/40 mags that come with this Sig will be compatible with all three calibers. This way you have a multi use gun that can grow with you as you want to try different calibers.

I must have well over 15K rounds through mine and she's going strong.
