looking to get an H&R Handi-Rifle

Anyone seen these around lately?

I've been looking to pick one of these up, I have a 20g pardner shotgun already, been looking for a rifle caliber so I can make more complete use of the barrel accessory program. [wink]

Open the firearm by pressing the release lever, and be sure the chamber is empty.
Remove the forend screw and forend.
With firearm fully open, lift the barrel off the hinge.
Carefully package the stock, forend and frame (receiver) for shipping. (DO NOT SHIP YOUR EXISTING BARREL.) Send by U.S. Mail or U.P.S. insured to the following address (DO NOT MARK THE NATURE OF THE CONTENTS ON THE OUTSIDE OF SHIPPING CARTON):

Edit: if you need the rifle to get the barrel... check with D+L in Warwick. I think they had a few.

Got one in 243. Love the little monkey. Looking at a 270 barrel for it.

Rifle is small money and fun to shoot. Accurate too!

Bought mine from a fellow NES'r. Got a nice scope with it that probably cost more than the rifle.

It's an Ultra Varment with a heavy barrel.

in retrospect, i should have gotten a handi rifle first, so i could put any barrel on it.

Having the shotgun, I can only put other shotgun barrels, the muzzleloader barrel, and .357/44 mag barrels on my receiver.

I recommend against firing it under cover (ie. firing line with rain/snow cover), and also against firing it from a seated position if there is a back to the chair. The sound has to go somewhere, and your body needs to be able to move to absorb the recoil.

The way I'd describe it shooting under a cover... you know how there's a tiny bit of space between your brain and your skull? Those two don't like to smack into each other.

That said, definitely get one of these. [cheers]

They won't sell you just the barrel. It must be fitted at the factory to your receiver. You have to ship the receiver to them, they fit the barrel and ship back the completed rifle.

I have bought a Handi-Rifle and a Buffalo Classic (both 45-70) from my LGS within the past year. In both cases his distributer had them in stock and I was able to get them within a week. IIRC Pete's Gun & Tackle in Hudson NH had a 500 S&W handi-rifle in stock 2-3 months ago.
 
Outback Arms in plympton has one used with a scope but I can not recall the caliber- it was there on Wed.

Man, I've been eyeing the Buffalo Classic too...how do you like it?

I wish there was a "drool" emoticon, it would be the most used on this site.

IMO the Buffalo Classic is a great "budget" single-shot. Mine shoots as well as my 45-70 Ruger No. 1 and 1885 Hi-Wall, both of which cost me well over twice the price of the H&R.

FYI, Buds currently has Handi-Rifles in 45-70 and 30-30 in stock (plus several other variants)
