Did any of you hear any news on the availability of the M&P .45 acp version?
It sure would be nice to have it available. Already have a SW 1911 and would
like to add a plastic gun. Would you wait or buy a Ruger ?

That's kind of a vague question. What Ruger are you talking about? And what will you be looking to do with the gun?

I asked at Four Seasons last week and they had not heard any news about the .45 M&P. [thinking]

I was looking at the Ruger P345. It seems to be the only .45 Auto polymer handgun available in MA right now.

What I REALLY would want is a new Glock in 45 acp, 21 or 21 SF. The next closest handgun to that would be a M&P and although we can get them in 40
and 9mm it seems to be a problem for SW to get them certified in MA in 45 ACP.

So for now it looks like the M&P 45ACP will not be available short term. This may leave the Ruger P345 as the only option for an inexpensive polymer frame gun.

My planned use was for home protection and to give the SW1911 a break at the range.

It sure would be nice to be able to have more choices in MA!

I'm with you on that. I was dying to try out the new M&P too. I didn't have any neat guns with a polymer frame and a tactical rail and I thought that would be the perfect solution. The glocks didn't do much for me, too fat and awkward in my hand. I think it was actually a good thing that I didn't shell out the dough for one of them when I wanted to. Not that I've heard anything bad about them, in fact I've heard a lot of good about them. It's just that I realized that I'm more into the 1911's and I could put a tactical rail on one of those if that' what I wanted out of a home defense pistol.

I did get some experience with the M&P .40 and the only thing that I did not like was the .40 caliber round, the trigger, and the rear sights seemed awkwardly too far back. I did like the way it shot better than the Glocks but again I don't really have much experience with the polymer guns. All told, I would probably own one right now if they had become compliant and stayed compliant.

I tried the .45 ACP M&P at Four Seasons (dry fired) and was unimpressed, it felt a lot like a Glock. Then I realized I was mentally comparing the .45 ACP M&P to my small frame .40 S&W Glock. The M&P has a small, comfortable grip for a .45. I want one, BAD.

I had a Ruger P345. Nice gun, accurate, fit my hand well but I'm just a 1911 kind of guy I guess. I would like a Ruger LCP .380 if it shows up here. However it can't be approved in CA (no mag disconnect and loaded indicator) so we probably won't get it.

I'm on a mission for a Sig220 after being let down with the appearance/disappearance of the M&P45. I have to admit though, (Sig fans look away)...I was completely impressed with the look, fit, finish and feel of the Ruger P345 - it actually felt better in my hand than the 220...

I am totally having second thoughts about liking you now man....

NOW GO, and apologize to the next Sig you see and let's not have anymore of that silly talk.

There, there my precious...he didn't mean anything by it.

You can't judge by firing (or even dry-firing) a brand new M&P.

I shot the M&P .45 out at S&W's range during our NES trip a year+ ago. It was "well broken in" and was a sweet shooting gun.

I measured the trigger pull on a brand new, never fired M&P .45 (standard US trigger) and it was ~11# on a Lyman digital gauge. After 750 rds, that same gun was ~8# on the same gauge. When people say you need to "break in" a gun, I guess that they are right.

and after about $150 and a trip to a good smith, it's down to 3.5 - 4.5 pounds, breaks like glass, has no over travel, and resets at a hairs width [smile]

I have an older P220 w/o the rail, reliable as hell. Eats whatever I feed it. Thinking of getting the new SRT trigger put in it by the Sig factory. Supposedly it shortens the trigger reset by 60%. It's got a fantastic trigger with a short reset as it is, I can't imagine it being even better!

I bought a M&P 45 out of the classified section on this site (Thank you RoundGunShooter). It has factory night sites and I also got 8 mags and a Talon Tactical Kydex paddle holster and mag pouches. I own 2 Glock G19's, a second gen and a 3rd gen. The M&P is, for me, a much better handgun. The grip is just better for my hand and it points well for me. It does not have a Mass trigger so I don't have that complaint. My one complaint is that the muzzle gets really dirty within 50 rounds other than that it is one of the best pistols I own and I'll never sell it. My 2 cents. John

I hate to cause anguish, but I also picked up an M&P 45 from the NES classifieds. I have to say, it has become my favorite after a Derr precision trigger job. I had a Glock 21 but never warmed up to the grip. Keep an eye out on the NES clasified section as they pop up from time to time.

Just heard...

S&W retail store told me that the M&P .45 should be available in the fall.

I have shot it (without the Mass trigger) and it was sweet.

Both are listed in the Smith and Wesson catalog I believe...

NOT JOKING HERE. I have the catalog in front of me right now. SKU 109107 is the mid size M&P45 in black. I guess I was wrong about the 9mm mid size. Download the product guide and look on page 19.

so I'll hope that these "mediums" are availalbe to us sometime in 2010. [sad2]

I have a Ruger 345 nice gun, accurate, reliable have never had a stoppage. Everyone who shoots it comments about it's light recoil. Like shooting a 9mm. I plan on going to four seasons this weekend and getting an M&P in 40 can't decide on full size or compact. My life is full of tough decisions like that.

+1 on the Ruger. I love my Ruger... it's my favorite, I only carry my M&P9c for the 10+1 factor over the 8+1 on the Ruger - ammo is cheaper too. [wink]

not a huge deal, but I love the fact that I can unload a full mag of .45 into a 11+17 paper at 30 feet (fast). I can't do that with my 1911 accurately.

As of right now all you are getting in this state is the full size and compact M&P9s. The only other M&P9 variants are the Julie Goloski limited run and the two different longslide 9s. All three of which will not be available in MA due to trigger poundage. Just to rub it in both longslides shoot slicker than dogshit.

Don't hold your breath anytime soon for the 5" M&P45, the 4 1/2, the compact 45 or any other type of variant. And like the longslide 9's both the compact and midsize 45s shoot slicker than dogshit.

You can shit in one hand and wish in the other and see what piles up first.

I have a M+P .45 with the "normal" trigger and I absolutely hate the gun. For some reason I just don't like how it feels in my hand, and the trigger sucks even in it's non-Mass configuration.

YMMV.

I bid $400[smile] - we can go in increments of $10 until one of us quits
