I have been considering an M&P 45 as my first non-9mm handgun. A trigger job on this gun seems like a necessity in MA.

Greg Derr (for one) advertises that he can tune the trigger to my desired weight. Well, what weight do people have triggers adjusted to? And does anyone know the free state trigger weight (I have fired a free-state M&P 45... it was NICE)?

Also, any word on the M&P 45c becoming Mass compliant?

My M&P 45 (LE model) came with 11# trigger OOB (measured with Lyman Electronic gauge). After ~700 rds it was down to 8# before giving it to Greg Derr for a trigger job (5# and smooth now).

My M&P 9 FS (LE model) came with 8# trigger OOB, but felt like pulling it thru a sand pile. Ran 150 rds thru it and gave it to Greg Derr. Now sports a very smooth 5# trigger job.

My personal view is that EVERY M&P needs a trigger job, even with a Free America trigger.

It really depends on what you're going to do with the gun and your experience level with shooting. I like a light trigger under 2lbs. Not yet possible (to my knowledge) on the M&P. That being said I would recommend around 3lbs. if you are experienced with shooting and maybe around 4 or so if you're not. You have to be a lot safer with a lighter trigger so you don't have any AD's.

Good luck.

I did my own trigger and reduced my MA 10lb disaster to 5.0 lb. I find this about right for self defense. As soon as I can get a spare sear block assembly I plan on doing a lighter trigger for match use.
