Hello,

a friend sent me some pictures of a M1 Garand Sniper.
What do you think about ?
Is this an original Sniper rifle or a possibile fake ?
On the left side of the stock there is a DoD ...

Thank you anticipately for your help.

The receiver is from Springfield Armory, Inc (Geneseo, IL) not from the US Government arsenal at Springfield, Mass, i.e "Springfield Armory." Tip offs are the >6Mil serial number, and the receiver heel, which shows the little TM-looking symbol after the word "Armory."

This is clearly not an authentic M1 Sniper, but a reproduction someone built-up on a late commercial receiver.

The cheek pad seems to be a repro, as well as the scope mount. The scope appears to be
an original though.
Here's mine for comparison, arsenal refurbed at Springfield Armory in 1952, then likely off
to service in Denmark. By now it has been fitted with the same flash hider as yours, courtesy
of Gunpartscorp.

NOT REAL. If less than $1000 USD, a good shooter.
