So I am building a G1 FAL look alike and have potentially found a real G1 barrel. For those of you who dont know, a G1 barrel is non threaded at the end but has a attachment lug about 2 inches from the end of the barrel. This lug is used as a quick disconnect to attach flash hiders, blank adapters etc. It is not used for the express purposes of attaching a bayonet however. The bayonet, from what I understand attaches to another device which then attaches to the lug on the barrel - it cannot attach directly. I have also purchased a fake flash hider that will attached to the barrel lug as I know that I will not be allowed to have one.

My concern is that the attachment lug will be viewed as a bayonet lug and I really don't want to get into any sort of trouble over semantics.

Anyone else ever have a similar issue? Am I being paranoid?

If it can't take a bayonet, don't worry about it. However, if it will take a flash hider you'll probably need to permanently fix the fake hider.

If the law says "Bayonet lug" and not "lug", technically you should not be in violation. But don't expect any court in this land to give a shit about reality or reading the law as written.

maybe not...honestly I don't know what the "lug" on a G1 FAL barrel (or a G1 FAL barrel for that matter) looks like, and again I base this off how the feds looked at stuf during the AW ban (so mass may differ slightly, as we have no tech branch to ask) but "back in the day" the traditional H&K three lug system like found on the muzzel of MP5's did not count as evil features, attaching a flash suppressor to the lugs would have been a vioulation, but the lugged barrel was not.

Its a simple rectangular lug having no threaded barrel. Given the definition you stated SB regarding the MP5 I couldn't not see how it would alone be a violation on a FAL unless you attached a FH

As far as I knew you could just attach or detach a fake FH, implying that the lug was not an issue by itself.

Why do I need to permanently fix a fake flash hider? The barrel isn't threaded.

As far as I see I still only have 2 evil features - a pistol grip and a detachable magazine.

If securityboy is right about the H&K lugs then I would say you are in the clear. Then again I'm not the one who would potentially be prosecuting you either [grin]

I found this in the archives of thehighroad.org

Its a muzzle accessory lug, not a bayonet lug. Yes, there are bayonets available for the G1 FALs (same as any other FAL), but they wont fit on the muzzle accessory lug. Try it sometime, you'll see. I tried sticking a bayonet on the lug on the barrel of a G1 kit, and it doesnt work. That lug is ONLY for flash suppressor/brake/ grenade launcher/suppressor.

Its not threaded, and a bayonet wont fit on it. So no problem."

You would have to feel comfortable yourself but I would believe that's correct. That lug is also for the blank adapter...nothing illegal about that. Just make sure that if you put one of the original looking false flash suppressors on, that you cant mount a bayo on that. Since they were sold during the AWB for the purpose of looks I would think they are safe. I am no AWB law expert so please dont take my word on it...just trying to give you thoughts in your search
