MIM knives from Magpul?

I think we are all a little skeptical of MIM parts based on the early failures. As they say, "That's a bold strategy, Cotton..." We'll see how well it has been implemented and if it pays off. IMHO smart for them to branch out into knives and capitalize on their brand strength and technology. If they nail the alloy and process, seems like it could be a very good blade. Magnacut is a powder steel, though made via a different process.

IIRC, knives made with powdered steel have been around for a while now. At least a decade (or more) if I'm correct. I also think they've evolved over time. Personally, I wasn't much of a fan of them until more recent releases. I still prefer more traditional blade steels. Personally, though, I'd much rather have a blade that's made from a bar of steel rather then injection molded. With modern CNC machinery in use for most modern commercial knife makers, hell even some small makers are going with CNC processes, shaping blades doesn't take all that much time or effort. Larger companies can make the process highly automated from loading blanks to flipping them over to getting the profiles perfect every time. I can only imagine how much the Magpul blade will be initially. Especially with how they'll need to factor in the cost of the molds needed to make them. Injection molds have a set lifespan. I'd imagine that the lifespan of the ones doing metal is less than ones for plastics.
While it's neat that they got the Magpul name debossed on the blade, that's a 'meh' item. I'm good with it being laser etched like all my other pocket knives (or the ones with markings).
BTW, there's a LOT of makers out there getting their blanks laser cut these days. Again, even small outfits (as in one man shops) doing this. Saves them a LOT of time and material costs that way. Creating jigs to hold the blanks for machining is another good way.
While I like a lot of what Magpul produces, I don't think I'll be looking to get one of their knives. At least not for some time. Especially since I just got my Cypher II this week.
