They are actually marked ".223 CAL" not ".223 Remington". If you want to be really, really, sure, go here: http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/PS-SerialNumberHistory-RI.html You can look up the serial number and get a copy of the correct owner's manual for your gun, which will verify that 5.56 can be used. Or just look at all of the version of the owner's manual (three I think) and verify that they all say it.
