Hello,
I could finally test my brand new Remington 700 Police .308"Win
I finally received the scope I had bought in USA, a Sightron SIII SS 8-32x56 LR TD/TDT and I could complete the install over the Leupold Mark4 Base with Leupold QRW 30 mm rings.
I also changed the original trigger group with a Timney Triggers Remington Tactical 8 Oz.

I went to the range two days ago, it was a really shining cold day, no wind at all.
I had reloaded 50 rounds with Winchester new brasses, 40.5 Grs of Vihtavuori N140, Sierra 175 Grs HPBT Match bullets.

I had a short breakin with first 10 rounds (1 shot, 1 clean, 1 dry) since it is not really a match barrel and I shot the other 40 rounds in about 2 hours in order to avoid the barrel overheating.

This is the result I got with 10 rounds at 219 Yards (200 Meters) over a target with a white central square 3" 15/16 x 4" 1/3 size. It was my really first time I shot with a .308"Win rifle and also my really first time at 219 Yards.

Nice shooting! Do you have access to Varget or IMR4064 powder? If so you will definately want to experiment with those as you should be able to shoot an inch (maybe less) at 200 yards with that rifle. If you are interested, send me a PM and I will help you out with some load data that has worked for me.

Thanks Tackdriver.
Unfortunatly those powder brands are not imported and distributed in Italy.
I am quite sure that the over 2" wide group of 8 rounds has been due not to the rifle nor to the ammo I used but to my limits as a shooter with no experience at all.
Next time I will try to improve.

That is one fine rifle you got there. Nice glass and trigger.
Shooting looks pretty good to me my friend.
Wishing you the best with your new 700.

Nice rifle and I like the trigger - sounds like a real winner.

Thanks BraM. The trigger has also the advantage to be turned towards right or left side according to shooter preferences.
Its a sort of L shape kept in place by the small Allen screw you can see in the picture.

very nice!

so where did you fire it at 200 meters? what are the gun clubs like in Italy?

Thank you.
I shot at National Range TSN in Somma Lombardo (VA) which is about 40 Km away from Milan.
They have a firing line up to 300 meters and next time I will try that one.
I am not member of any gun club yet. I am just a registred member of TSN Milan, which is National Range of Milan, very famous all over Italy for compressed air and gun competitions.

but in 2012 I would like to register to TSN of Pavia and Somma Lombard too, since in Milan is forbidden to shot with rifle
of caliber over .22" at 50 meters. The range is in the town so no long firing lines and no way to make noise unfortunatly.
No problem at all in Pavia and in Somma Lombardo, where ranges are in the country, so they have long distances and no problem at alle with noise.
