Mystery Ranch Packs

I know they are high priced but the packs are build like tanks, or so the reviews say. A good pack is the base of everything you carry, if ones pack fails, nothing else matters. Ive paid over a grand for a gun so $345 isnt too bad for me. I also subscribe to the philosophy "buy once, cry once".

this one is a bit less http://www.mysteryranch.com/3-day-assault-pack

I did a bunch of internet research on the ASAP a few months ago when I was in the market for a new pack. I really should have bought one. I spent $100 on a much smaller pack that I'm not really in love with. I've considered selling it to get a goruck, but the ASAP is always in the back of my mind. They look to be solidly made packs. Lots of positive reviews out there.

Does not hating the 3 day assault pack count...because I literally HATE every field op that requires an ILBE in the Corps. Hide shit in the woods in the direction you're traveling to avoid having to carry anot ILBE...anything...don't die tired and beaten...

Too heavy? Just uncomfortable? Both?

I ask because they seem well built, well liked by people who use them for hiking/camping and reasonably priced. If people who have *used* them think they're terrible that's good to know.

I have a ILBE assault and main pack. The assault pack leaves a lot to be desired as far as internal organization goes, the shoulder and waist belt are not very good either. However, the main pack is pretty good, just wish it had more room. The new FILBE main pack is wicked good, much bigger and it is designed by mystery ranch. I may opt for the less expensive MR assault pack, it doesn't have the body armor BVS system but I don't foresee myself hiking around with a plate carrier.

I don't have one but I spent some time fondling them at SHOT, people will gripe about the money, but they usually don't know what they're talking about. Saving $100 isn't worth the pain that a shit backpack can put you through. The MR's seem like very well built pieces of kit.

I have the three day assault. The tri-zip is a cool feature. The futura frame is comfortable. The radio harness gets in the way if you don't actually have a radio in it. It's very well made. Mine has made it through two deployments. I have taken it on an overnight camping trip with a backpacking tent, 3 day might be a stretch for civilian camping unless you pack pretty light.

I definitely recommend Mystery Ranch, but make sure you research what size and features you want for what you want to do it with it. The military models have cost built in for stuff you might not need, like radio harness, comms channels, etc.

I agree, Im looking at the models without the BVS and radio pouch. Its less weight for stuff I dont use anyhow which makes a lot of difference.

I have an ASAP: the build quality is excellent but I am not crazy about the tri-zipper layout (awkward to access anything unless you have it laying flat on the ground). Also, there arent many compartments for your lickies and chewies. On the upside, the yoke is excellent with great support (I run with it on the regular). For my EDC, I go with (and love) my TAD LiteSpeed... Cant go wrong w/ MR, though!

He is right, it does not sit upright when you get it down, you have to lay it down to get at stuff at the bottom of the main compartment, especially if you use the long tube style pockets on the interior.

I have a sweet pea and love it all other brands of packs can latterly take a hike but you can not easily access you gear with out unpacking everything if what you seek is at the bottom

I go on the road a lot 3 days of work clothes , 3 days off duty clothes , two climate garments and sundries easily fit I kill just about every other pack with that load and it is carry o size compliant too boot
