Classic Military Battle Rifle Match#1
Saturday May 17th Armed Forces Day
0900

This season’s first Classic military rifle match will be held on Saturday May 17th. This is an
informal and relaxed competition and we start at a very civilized 0900. We are usually complete by
around noon. Military matches are designed for all shooters no matter what your skill level.
Get that old M1, 1903, or any other service rifle, clean it up and bring it out. All relays will
be squadded. Squadding will begin at 0800 on the 200-yard line. Match starts at 0900

Qualifying rifle for this match will be any standard issue military service rifle of any nation or
civilian equivalent either bolt or gas operated. All qualifying rifles must be “rack grade” with
no match accurizing. Rifles must use issue iron sights only. Please do not bring rifles with
muzzle breaks as they tear up the range when fired in the prone position. All firing will be done
from the 200-yard line and ample time and help will be provided to obtain a good zero. We will have both bolt action and gas gun classes for the competition so take your pick. Course of fire is
listed below. All competitors will be required to perform pit duty.

All are welcome, members and non-members alike. Loaner rifles will be available for this match
and the CMP Governor will support the match with low cost .7.62 NATO, 5.56, 30-06 & M1 Carbine ammunition for purchase if available. All you need is eye and hearing protection, match fee and an open bolt indicator (OBI). OBI will be available for purchase at a cost of $1.00.

Armed Forces Day

When: Third Saturday in May

This is simply a day to salute sharply to all of the men and women in all branches of the service who protect our country and you. They can be called upon at a moment's notice to perform a risky and perilous mission for freedom and country. They train diligently both physically and mentally so they will be prepared to prevail in any mission they face.

Just how did it all begin? Well, each branch of the military had their own day of celebration. But, on August 31, 1949 then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day. President Harry Truman also announced the holiday in a presidential proclamation on February 20, 1950. All branches of the military were asked to celebrate on this day and they complied on the first Armed Forces Day which was held the following year on May 20, 1950.
