I'm planning out my AR build for one of the NES AA receivers.

Right now, I'm worrying about the front sight. I don't know whether I should just use a rail mounted folding front BUIS sight, or use a regular M4 front sight base, or use a gas-block mounted folding front sight.

Anyone have any experience using an EOTech with a fixed front sight? Does it affect it at all?

If you are going to use a gas block mounted one...make sure the gas block is high enough.... the one I got isn't and it's too low to use.... I had to mount the front sight on my FF rail.... I don't like it because with a sling I put too much pressure on the FF to shoot accurately.

I would get either a gas block or regular M4 front sight base.

No EOTech experience.

I think they make the sights in two heights, rail mounted and gas block mounted.

I like the idea of just going with a normal front sight/base but I don't know if that will get in the way of the EOTech.

I have an EOTech 552 with my stock Stag M4 and the front sight doesn't get in the way. You see it but learn to look through it and not notice it as much. It bothers me more if I want to mount a scope on the rail. I'll be building a new upper for the NES lowers too and plan to use a short gas block with flip down front so I have more options.

I have an eotech and a gas block mounted front sight. When I put the eotech on, I remove the front sight so I would say go with a GB mounted front that is either rail based or flip up so you can get it out of the way.

In regards to the front sight and the Eotech, I originally had mine where the front sight co-witnessed in the middle of the Eotech viewfinder:

I felt that it was kind of distracting so I raised the Eotech using the RRA dominator (see bottom rifle). This puts the iron sights cowitnessed on the bottom thrid of the viewfinder which I find less distracting.

I'd suggest using a rail mounted flip up sight for an unobstructed view with the Eotech (see middle rifle). Flip up BUIS when needed. YMMV.

Ahhh cool, I guess I'll have to look into that and see if I can find a gas block mounted one.

Do you plan of free floating your barrel ?

No..Use a standard FSB.

Yes..Do one of the things you mentioned.

My barrel is free floated, but I kept the standard FSB because I like the way it looks.

Do you find that the front sight interferes with your use of the aimpoint? it looks like you have a cowitness there in the lower 1/3rd.

The way I had originally built my M4 (with EoTech), was with a standard front sight tower.

I found the set-up a bit distracting and switched the front sight to a gas block mounted flip-up.

I probably would have gotten used to the original set-up with time and practice... but even so, I like the flip-up option much better.

One thing with an EoTech is that the reticle works relative to your head position. If your cheek weld has the "dot" in the upper left quadrant of the screen (so that the dot is no longer cowitnessed with the front sight), ... the point of impact will not change regardless of where the dot is in the screen.

Yep, that's why I like the EOTech. Wherever the reticle is, the bullet goes.

I think I'm leaning towards the flip up front sight, probably from Midwest Industries, on the gas block. I want to use their 2 piece extended length carbine guard that goes around the gas block and continues forward a few more inches down the barrel, and I think the flip sight would fit very nicely in the gap that is built into that handguard. My other motivation for not using a standard front sight base is I'm having a muzzle brake welded on, and having a two piece gas block instead of the standard front sight makes it removable without the muzzle brake interfering.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
