I'm not terribly knowledge about bolt gun mechanics so maybe someone can help me out here.

I have a Savage model 10 precision carbine in 308 with accutrigger, the problem I am encountering is that sometimes after you cycle the bolt and chamber a round the trigger jams up solid, I have to raise and lower the bolt handle to free it then is works normally. It doesn't happen on every cycle but out of twenty shots it's happening 6-8 times. I haven't altered the rifle in any way including the trigger and I am the only owner.

Has anyone here experienced this before and if so what was the fix?

Thanks,

If you close the bolt too hard on an Accu trigger gun you cause the trigger detent to release, the sear lock is then engaged to prevent the rifle from firing when the safety is released. When you open the bolt again you reset it. This tends to be more of a problem when the trigger is set very light.

I'll have to look at that, I didn't think I was being overly aggressive with the bolt but who knows. So if that's the case dialing back the trigger pull would tend to eliminate the issue?

Heavier pull weights tend to eliminate the problem.

Should be noted that ammo can effect this. Are you running factory ammo, or reloads? Tight fit and hard to closed bolt will exacerbate the problem. A "snap" at the bottom of the bolt closing stroke can knock a light trigger off the detent. You should be able to close the bolt with two fingers.

Using both Federal GMM and reloads (happening with both). Reloads are full length sized and dies are properly set, no difficulties in chambering either of them. I may just be operating the bolt to aggressively, something like that wouldn't even be on my radar.
