Need Info. On S&W Sigma SW40VE

I recentkly took apart my pistol for a regular cleaning, as I have done numerous times before, and for some reason the spring quide will not compress with the spring so that I can get it back into the slide. I have never encountered this problem before on any pistol I have owned. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this and knows what the resolution is. If I cannot find an answer here I will take it to a gun smith but I would prefer to try and resolve it myself first. Nothing I tried seemed to work. If you have any thoughts or ideas on this problem or if you have seen this before, especially on this S&W I would appreciate you dropping me a note at bjc01@hotmail.com.

I've tried that but no joy. I have even tried to compress the spring outside the slide and the rod that runs up the middle of the spring won't budge. Is it possible that the rod inside the spring needs to be twisted to a certain position to allow it to coompress properly? I have cleaned this psitol many times before and never had this problem. It used to compress with normal pressure. In fact I have never encoutered this with any other pistol I have owned. Any thoughts?
