Looking to buy a .22 cal DA revolver. 6 or 10 shot. Have been checking out Charter Arms Pathfinder series, as well as Ruger SP101/22. S&W has the Model 63.
Any suggestions?

I would wait on the ruger...it'll be just as robust as the regular sp101

I'm a big fan of Ruger revolvers, and it'll come in way below the retail of a SW 317 or 617

Go with Smith & Wesson. A .22lr revolver is a range toy, not a defensive gun. So what you want is the best trigger possible.

I have a S&W 617 6" ten shot. Nice gun. Built to last. Very accurate.

Also have an older 4" (1980) S&W Model 18-4, 22, six shot revolver. Same as above.

They are worth the little bit more, IMO, and are solidly built to last.

I have the 4" S&W 617. Best .22 revolver out there and a great compliment to my Wife's S&W 64 (.38Spl) that we use for training.

I have the 6 inch S&W 617 ten shot and agree. It is easily my favorite range gun. If I were to buy again, I might consider the 4 inch more. It definitely feels heavy after holding it on target for 10 well placed shots. There are 10 shot .22 speed loaders out there as well. Only gripe is that it takes a while to clean.

I'd find a vintage S&W revolver. I had a new production 617, and I just couldn't get over the trigger - incredibly heavy, sticky, etc. I was told it needed breaking in, but I didn't have the patience, I guess. Sold it and bought a vintage Model 17 (for half the price), and I love it.

IMHO, Smith & Wesson revolvers just get better with age.

I'm going to have Greg Derr do his magic on the 617 trigger. Last 2 revolvers I had him do turned out excellent and cost me $45 each . . . I'm sure he's gone up some, but it's still much cheaper than burning ammo to smooth it out.

Anyone have any experience with the Ruger single action 22lrs? The cowboy gun looking ones. My GF likes the look of them and wants one (aka me buying it for her to shoot when she comes with me to the range).

I have a Stainless Single Six with a 5.5" barrel and 22lr/22mag cylinders. I love it. I put a fiber optic front sight on it. It's great fun and it's a keeper.

Dry firing accomplishes the same smoothing and it costs nothing.

I bought the Taurus 941. I would have like to get the S&W but for have the price I went with the Taurus. ITs treated me good. Its not as nice as a 617, but I beat on the thing on the trap line so its fine with me.

Do you want it for serious target work or a decent plinker?
I love my Model 63, it's a light, handy and accurate holster gun for out in the woods, but the model 17/617 variants are more serious for target shooting.

The 63 is a J Frame, while the 17 is a heavier K Frame

+10 617 10 shot

I can't believe no one mentioned Colt Officer Model yet. Especially ones made back in the Depression era, fine workmanship and match quality accuracy. I got mine for $500.

Not mine but a fine example of this gun:

+1 S&W
I have Model 18-3 I bought used close to 15 years ago. I fell away from the shooting sports shortly after purchasing and so I only shot it a few times. Last week I took my 12 year old daugther to the range with it (her first time) and she loved it ! I started her out with "CB"'s and then on to the regular bulk stuff ( all the ammo she shot was older than she was, LOL ). No problems at all even after sitting so long. I didn't use any sort of storage prep, just cleaned and oiled it like it would be used the following weekend - only a decade later.

S&W Model 317 Kit Gun (in the 3 inch kit gun form not the snub nose variant).
In 3 inch for it's a great little gun, buy one you regret it.

I've got an older one, pre-internal lock.
I paid $425 for it, but I also got an M-1 in great shape for $575 from the same guy.
