New England Gun Store Listings

Hi, I was wondering if you could add our store to your list. We just opened Dec 1st 2007. The name of the store is North Shore Firearms in Middleton, Ma. and our web site is www.northshorefirearms.com , We sell most handguns that we can and we have a large selection of shotguns. We carry nice shooting clothing and accessories from Browning, Beretta, Boyt and Sig. We have most brands and gauges/calibers of hunting, self defense and target ammo. Large muzzle loading section with all the accessories. We have AR type rifles from Bushmaster & S&W M&P rifles. We have affordable shotguns from Charles Daly and Lanber, all the way up to Browning, Beretta and beautiful Caesar Guerini shotguns. Soon to come is the new Browning X bolt rifles and the new Winchester Model 70 rifles and we also have the S&W I Bolts now. We carry .22 rifles and pistols and have small used gun section so far. But its growing everyday! We also have beautiful hand painted reproductions of decoys and carvings from Loon Lake. Very friendly and comfortable atmosphere w/coffee and a large TV to watch hunting and shooting shows and videos. Come on in and take a look around. Thanks, MIKE

Nice website, Mike. That's a little out of the way for me, but ya never know. Nice to see that there are still new gunshops opening up here in our little Socialist slice of heaven!

Best of luck to you!

Dear Brent,

I would like to recommend the following three gun shops in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. I have included a short personal description for each:

Pete's Gun Shop
www.petesgunshop.com
9 Grove Street
P.O. Box 8
Adams, MA 01220
(413)743-0780

Over 500 guns in stock (all types), displayed in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere in an old brick school house. Friendly, knowledgeable service/advice. Founded by the owner's father, a WWII veteran.

Dave's Sporting Goods
1164 North St
Pittsfield, MA 01201
Phone: (413) 442-296

High-end long arms, a few pistols, reloading supplies. Prices vary from fair to a bit high, but there are some exquisite guns here of a class you seldom see anywhere else. I've bought three guns here so far and have no regrets about what I paid.

Pat's Gun Shop
545 South Main St.
Lanesboro, MA 01237
(413) 499-3897

Pat specializes in antique and military weapons. He has the best prices in the county, so his stock moves with lightning speed. If you see something you want, better grab it! Pat also stocks used accessories and reloading equipment at unbeatable prices. Occasional bargains on ammunition, too.

Renaissance Firearms, Gonic, NH

Another gun shop in NH.

Renaissance Firearms
19 Main Street
Gonic, NH
603-335-4116

Ernie is the owner.

It is a small gun shop and sign shop under one roof. He has a nice selection of new and used handguns, rifles, and shotguns as well as most of the usual accessories and ammo. He'll order what you want and charges $10 for transfers.

I am not associated with the shop, but I have shopped there quite a bit.

You can take Jurek's off the list of shops in MA. They will be closing their doors within the next month to concentrate solely on LE sales and contracts. There will be no more civilian sales whatsoever.

A new shop will be opening in Greenfield once Jurek's has officially closed its doors. When I get more info, I'll pass it along.

The new shop was the Montague Ammo Depot. Regrettably it's now closed as well. I would also suggest taking Jurek's off the list, or make a notation "Police only" as any "non-cop" making a trip to buy there will be disappointed. They won't sell to regular folks. [frown]

Tombstone Trading Company in Brookfield, MA is a great place to do business. Tons of hard to find MA compliant handguns, used long guns, shotguns, etc. Dave, the owner is a super friendly guy as is the rest of his staff.

A few more NH shops

Stateline Gun Shop in Mason NH

http://www.statelinegunshop.com/index.cfm

Good people, good service. They have a little bit of everything. Paul Carpenter is a gunsmith and has done some nice work for me in the past. Special orders have gone smoothly. Usually has some interesting used stuff. Class III dealer and OPEN on SUNDAYS!

Eric Manna Distributing in New Ipswich NH

http://ericmannadistributing.com/

"The Most Politically Incorrect Gun Shop In America." I haven't been to every gun shop in America, but Eric's would get my vote. Competitive pricing and will order whatever you want. Shop is small and cramped. 100 yard range on site with rentals. Class III dealer.

Pete's Gun and Tackle in Hudson NH

No web address

Pete's is a small shop with a limited inventory. Mike? has always gone out of his way to help me. Worth stopping in if you are driving by. Picked up a nice Detective Special for a pretty good price.

Place in the Woods in Antrim NH

http://www.placeinthewoods.biz/

I haven't been here for a while. Website says that they are under new management. Caters to the hunter.

Pelletier's Sports Shop in Jaffery NH

http://www.pelletiersports.biz/

I've never been there. I don't get to Jaffery often.

Sportsman's Trading Post in Amherst NH

No web address

Overpriced, strange policies, owner leaves a lot to be desired. I'll drive 20 miles out of my way to not go here. Maybe further!!

Anyone know of a new(er) Gun Shop/FFL open in Milford, MA. I saw a small add in the Want Ad a few weeks ago but I did not write it down and now can't find it. Please PM me if this rings a bell.

Txs,
Gonzo

Milford Ma Gun shop

Went by real early this morning (closed) on Central street downtown.

Looks like it will be called Americas Armed.
Nor real signage yet just stickers on the window.

Does anyone have a good site that lists ALL gun shops on the in eastern US. I'm going to be doing some extensive traveling and one of my goals is to visit as many gun shops as I possibly can in a 1-2 year period. In particular I will be visiting ME, VT, NH, NY, RI, CT, PA, NJ, DE, MD, VA, WV, and of course MA because thats where I live.

Given the statutory requirements for a separate location, I'd like to see how that is accomplished.

You know Scrivener, that was the first question out of my mouth as well when I first heard about it. I have no idea how he pulled it off but I am relatively sure of it's "home" status. I too will be curious to find that out. I do know the gentleman in question has considerable "Pull" locally in our very small pond, but in my (admittedly limited) understanding there is a considerable federal aspect of obtaining the required FFL so obviously local pull isn't going to help that.

In other words...yup, I'd like to know how he pulled it off as well.

Scriv, here are some of my thoughts (admittedly I haven't and won't bother researching for absolute facts in this particular case . . . too far away to care) on how this can be done and still meet the law. [You are probably aware of some of the below, but it's also for the benefit of the other readers of this thread.]

- Some very small towns have almost no zoning by-laws, or they allow for a family-run business to operate out of a residence within their zoning by-laws.

- The interpretation of "meeting zoning requirements" is most often left up to the local police chief (who issues the state license) along with the building inspector. If he is an anti, likely nothing but commercially zoned property will do. If he's more pro, he might read/interpret the zoning by-laws as allowing (legally) a family-run business at a residence and give the green light (as long as it is a separate building per Ch. 180).

- Zoning is a very complex issue and what is allowed in a particular zone in one town may require a very different zoning district in another town. I've been involved in the writing/approval at Town Meeting of zoning by-laws for >25 years and thus know that there are too many nuances to try to paint the entire state with a single broad brush. For other readers' benefit, here are some of the zoning types/districts that I am familiar with: Residential, Rural, Suburban, Housing Authority, Business, Professional, Light Industrial, Commercial . . . and the list can go on (varies by city/town). A RE Agent once told me that she was going to try to site a nice restaurant in the Light Industrial district in one town . . . I had to advise her that it would be illegal and not approved . . . it had to go in the Business district only for that particular town.

- I know of many residential homes that are actually located within a Business district zone due to their location on the periphery of other business (e.g. strip-malls or office buildings).

- If the zoning allows for it, IIRC from the 1998 law, the business would require a separate building on the site. Thus a shed/barn/garage could be set up legally as a gun shop next to a home in MA if such a business is allowed by the local zoning by-laws. I know of a few such arrangements that are currently operating in MA, with full knowledge and approval of the local police chief and BATFE.

To tie Len's comments together, I would add that:

1. The town in question is quite green with a CLEO who is an NRA member and firearms rights supporter.

2. The town is question is very small.

http://www.firstdefensefirearms.com/
in uxbridge, ma

http://www.aarmed.com/
in milford, ma

anyone know anything about these 2?

FS in woburn definately is the best i've been to so far, but their schedule doesn't jive with mine, and it's kind of far from me...

Please use ADVANCED Search (use business names as keywords) and you will find that both are NES Sponsors and have threads here that review the shops.

You will find that NES'rs have had many positive experiences at each of these shops.
