new folding ar15 design

Solution in search of a problem. Interesting but won't get much traction imho.

What happens if you pull the trigger and the latch isn't firmly engaged? Basically, can you shoot your own barrel if that latch disengages?

Do you mean fire out of battery because the two halves are not completely mated? I could see that. There is always a certain level of risk and stupidity Darwin's itself out over time.

Then your stupid and the problem will take care of itself...

Don't ARs already break down pretty easily??

If it is not fully latched you can't fire it. The stroke and impact depth on a primer of an AR firing pin is very small.

Also "shooting your own barrel" indicates you're a little lacking in how most firearms work. The chamber is part of the barrel.

Loved my Daewoo K2. Not a full AR, Not a Galil. But very fun to shoot...

They need to invent a barrel that stretches out like a bendy straw. You can collapse it for carry, and twist it around corners for those inner city shootouts.

They probably could do a collapsible/telescoping barrel.

Only gives a slight length advantage over the Kel-Tec SU16, is it worth it?

OTOH, makes it a lot easier to clean the barrel (or deal with all the FTE's you're going to get if you don't swab out all the lint and cruft that'll accumulate in the chamber if you routinely transport it folded).

There are 2 primary variants of the SU-16, one of which folds at the trigger group:

Folding at the trigger group makes sense. Moving the bbl does not. Compare the Ruger take down vs the Henry AR-7 for accuracy to explain why.
