New M&P 9c Twelve pound trigger !

Pretty much everybody. I haven't gotten mine done yet because I don't shoot it that much, though that's partially a chicken/egg thing. I'm planning to take mine to Greg Derr. I shot one that he did and the trigger is sweet.

Tested my new M&P 9c on trigger sacle at twelve pounds !
Any other M&P owners changing out the trigger?

It's a given that if you buy a M&P in MA you MUST get a trigger job. Greg Derr in Marshfield does great work at a great price. PM him on this board.

He brought mine to about 5.5lbs.

this is actually the first I've heard of an M&P compact owner getting a trigger job (on this forum)... the MP Pistol forum is another animal - 90% or higher do NOT live in MA, hence don't usually need the trigger job.

i have a 9c also, and I don't find the trigger to be nowhere as bad as the full size M&P or SIGMA's....i'm guessing it's around 7#(ish) because it's feels like my Ruger.

-maybe it's the better ergo... [thinking]

It's the variability. My friend's 9c was horrid out of the box, probably pushing 20lbs. Mine isn't great, but it's usable. It probably meets the 10lb spec. I've heard multiple reports that the MA M&P triggers vary widely.

Some of the variance is because there is rugsweeping of the 6.5 lb trigger
models going on. IMO even the 6.5 pound trigger is mediocre, but it is still
way better than the MA cripple trigger which is this nasty scratchy 12 poundish
affair.

I think all the M&P owners here have had trigger work done. And Dan Burwell makes a lot of money doing free-state M&P work, because with a little work an average (even the free state one) trigger can be turned into an incredible one.

so I guess I should count my blessings....

I'm no Terminator or Chuck Hawks, but I just know that my 9c does NOT have a 10# trigger.

however, my only S&W comparrisons are my brother's M&P40, SIGMA 40 and my buddies SIGMA 9 - which are also supposed to have 10# triggers.

I've have also owned or currently own the following to compare trigger pulls:
1. Glock 22 w / 3.5# connector
2. S&W SW1911 - not even close
3. Ruger P345 - i'd say about 5 to 6# in SA, maybe 7 or 8# DA
4. Walther P22 - this one is scary light! 4 or 5#DA and less SA
5. Walther PPK/S - same as the P22
6. Para Ordnance Nite-Tac9 - even 5#

*out of all of these guns, I will guestimate the trigger pull was between 5 to 6#, based on my last time at the range with a Beretta M9, DA/SA "military" pistol... that first pull required an F350 powerstroke!

*or maybe, my girlfriend is right. I'm just a manly man man stud... LOL,

I would like to feel an M&P with a trigger job before I consider.. but then again, if it ain't broke.......

I got a .40 and then got a trigger job after 500 rounds.I actually loaded it pointed at the target then tried to pull the trigger.Looked to see if there was a saftey I was not aware of thinking I may brake it.Dan Burwell took it and made a 4lb trigger for me and I love it

Well, you're a Mass rifle member, if you ever see me up there you're welcome to try mine (although I won't be able to get up there for at least two weeks)

Well, shipped my M&P's off to Greg Derr. Both for fiber optic sights, and one for a full trigger job. He's going to "smooth over" the trigger of the second full size M&P as it has a free-state standard trigger and feels mushy. I hope it helps and I'll let you know how both turned out. Thanks all.

As I understand, the trigger pull outside of MA for the 9c is 6.5lbs, and that for sale inside MA (by regulation) is 10+lbs. However, (I am not a lawyer) you can change the sear sold in MA 9c's to the one sold outside MA, and thereby, decrease the pull. Brownelle (?spelling) and maybe Midway sells the standard sear (I bought mine from Brownelle's) for about $25, and generally any armorer can change the sear in about 20-30 minutes for a relatively small fee. It does make a significant difference. I have fired over 3000 rounds through my 9c, and the trigger is even more sweet now [grin]

Anyone have any recommendations for a gunsmith in central MA that can change out the trigger? My fiance is having a hard time shooting this gun with the 11lb+ trigger pull.

My M&P 9 had a 13.5# trigger pull. Brought it to Stateline Gun Shop in Mason, NH. Quick turn around time, great price, and super sweet trigger. It is now my favorite carry[smile]

I am getting the trigger fixed. It was painful to shoot the way it came from the factory.

I got a chance to handle the M&P .45, which did not have the MA trigger, and it was very nice. I wish they had put an external safety on the 9mm to bypass this issue for MA.

side note, I went into a store and tried a SIG pistol, and tried to pull the trigger. I broke out laughing, it was so hard to pull, probably 20+ lbs. What a joke. The safety is compromised I think when you cannot accurately pull the trigger and keep the gun on target.

I would get the Walther P99c over the S&W M&P compact myself. The AS trigger on my full size P99AS is out of this world.
