Anyone else notice this?

I just loaded 100 rounds of 9mm with Hornady HAPs

I had 6 fail my chamber checker.

Every one of them was New Rep brass. All bulged badly. Not a misaligned bullet during seating but bulged all around.

I had to run an errand but when I get back I’m going to check the brass thickness. Guessing that’s the issue.

Anyone else notice that with their brass?

I have to agree those are not reloadable… at least not with what I have (mighty Armory dies)… I was processing my Sorted brass and came across a case that I could not even size or deprime, it was one of those New Republics that escaped from the scrap bin during sorting…. I had to look at it a couple times just to confirm it was a 9mm… this is why I like to sort my brass….

I might have to now. I know I had one range trip with some buddies that were shooting it.

Guess I can’t be friends with them anymore 😂

SAAMI doesn't have requirements for reloadable casings.
Devil's advocate - Consider:

  • Not all Muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslims
  • Not all SAAMI casings are reloadable but all casings that are reloadable are SAAMI?

That did not play out as well as I expected it to...

I figure a casing made to a certain quality standard is more likely to be reloadable than a casing that meets the "Usually good enough" standard, even if that is not the focus of the standard.

I just resized 3 New Republic pieces of 9mm brass. All of them went into my case gauge.

The only issue I have ever had with them is small flash holes preventing decapping, but that is incosistent.

Yeah good point. However it would seem to be damn near impossible to make quality ammo meeting their external dimensions while having brass that’s .003” too thick and using proper diameter bullets.

So they just make garbage.

TS USA has a warning on New Republic 357 mag. ammo. Not suitable for use in Henry rifles. Issues with brass stuck in the chamber. That sucks as it's the most reasonably priced 357 and I'm looking for ammo to use in a Henry rifle.

Anytime I see a case of 9 from a no-name maker, and it is oh say $9 or $13 dollars less than the Remington/AE/S&B/Fiocchi/Federal I know it will be a crap shoot. Gun guys are frugal but you get what you pay for. Ammo is more or less a commodity and ~$10 is never worth the hassle.

Geko, New Republic, Ammohouse-whatever = shite

Agree.
I’ve just never seen such crap brass. I thought S&B sucked. This is worse.
I’ve probably shot 6k 9mm this year and this is the first brass that didn’t load well.
