New (to me) CETME. Anyone else here own one?

I have one that was built by Century Arms from a parts kit, during the federal ban, so the rifle is MA legal. Not difficult finding preban hicaps for it, either.

Century's build quality is not great. My receiver is in spec, but Century set the headspace by grinding the bolt instead of doing it correctly. I found a replacement bolt, but the barrel needs to be removed and pressed in to set headspace. Also, the cocking handle was not assembled correctly, so that started to drag which made for a few failures. If you enjoy working on rifles, most of the places Century screwed up can be fixed - but not all of them. You need to look through the CETME specific forums to see if the common problems and their fixes are work you want to take on.

It's a fun shooter, though, and mine has fairly nice wood on it. I don't like the rear sight as well as a G3, the trigger is heavy, but it's a good blaster. There are actual CETMEs that were imported years ago, but they are pretty pricey now. If you don't want to work on the rifle yourself, I would recommend finding either a Century that you know works, or an HK familiar gunsmith who could build one from a parts kit, preferably with a G3 rear sight.

Thanks Kevin, this is great feedback. Exactly what I was looking for.
