I have a 3rd gen S&W CS9 in which I just got some Trijicon night sights for. I understand you need a pusher tool and it can only go right to left or else you can kink the spring system under the sights.

Is this something I should have a competent gunsmith do or can I just borrow the tool and attempt it myself?

A gunsmith can take care of it in 10 minutes. Unless you have access to a site pusher, I'd just take it to a gunsmith.
