Local store just told me that Ruger is backordered 8 months on the SR22! Does that sound right? Is this a MA compliant gun on it's own? Can I buy on line and transfer? New to this. How does that process work?

SR22 is on EOPSS approved list, so I suppose you could pay the extra for a transfer, but why not call around and see if any other shops have it in stock?
If you give all of your business to midway, then don't complain when you can't buy ammo because all of the local shops have gone out of business.

Check Bob's Archery and Guns in Webster MA.. he had several a few weeks back. A few bucks more than the cheapest prices you'll find, but not unreasonable given the difficulty of keeping stuff in stock. Not affiliated, but I've bought from him in the past. Great shop.

OP here - I did make the trip to Holliston today and went to the new Mass Firearms School store! So happy to have picked up a SR22! The showroom is really nice and the guys working there were friendly and very helpful! Would never have known they had stock if it wasn't for NES!!!!!!!! I love this forum!
As of 1:30pm they had 5 SR22s left. Amazing because when they posted here last night at 9pm they had a dozen! Unreal how fast they are going but certainly a sign of the times. No 22lr ammo though.
Overall an EXCEPTIONAL buying experience at MFS. Nicely done gents! I will shop there again for sure.
BTW, no price gouging here! Brand new SR22 $309.00!!!!!!!!

I saw a guy on GunBroker selling a partiail box of Federal Bulk .22 for about three hundred bucks. I had just ordered a case of canned Unicorn Meat from Amazon; otherwise I would have been all over it.
For any other Western Massers looking for this gun, A&J's has a few every time I go in there. I'm tempted to buy one as an "I told you so".
Buy one you will not regret it. Until the better half shoots tighter groups then you...
