I have a S&W 1911Sc that I haven't shot in in some time. I am considering trading it, so I was going to take it to the range and put a few rounds through it to ensure all is well. However, I discover that the grip safety is not functioning.

I am not exactly sure what the problem is. I've taken it apart and put it back together several times. When the 1911 is stripped, the grip safety activates, but it seems to stay activated (small metal tab remains elevated) when pressure is taken off grip safety. I am not sure is that is an issue or just a byproduct of activation without the slide, barrel, ect.

When the pistol is assembled I am unable to even depress the grip safety.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The firing pin safety lever will stay up without the slide on. It is not under any spring tension

If the GS will depress when the slide is off but not when the slide is on and the FP safety moves freely, then make sure the firing pin safety plunger moves freely.

Some of these guns were built a little sloppy and the grip safety can move to the side and slip off to the right of the firing pin safety plunger lever. You should send it back to S&W for repair.
