Norinco MAK 90 vs. AR 15

Crap, I just watched the A-Team...maybe I should just go with the Mini-14?

But seriously, thanks for all the info and advice. Though I just checked three gun shops and haven't found any AKs for less than $800 in state, but I have found a few good looking ARs, so that might be my choice.

I converted a Saiga myself, and it turned out to be a very nice gun. And I intend on doing it again sometime in the future, I just didn't want to do that right now.

fourseasons in woburn had a few MAK90s for sale, one came with 8 30rnd mags and1k ammo. The prices ranged from 700-1100$ They also have some WASR10s for like 499.00 I seem to think these are the ones that do not take the older mags ver well?????

...I'm not sure if any of the milled receiver models were turned into Mak 90s...

Yes, there are milled MAK-90's out there. Another not so common MAK-90 variation is one that was all set to be an underfolder AK, you'll see the dimples in the rear of the reciever (which with the proper amount of 922r compliance parts may be converted into an underfolder).

Only if you get one with a canted front site. Other than that I've never seen one break or have a cycling problem. Nothing wrong with Romi AKs.

+1 on this. I have a WASR with a straight sight, tight mag well, and decent finish. There are two grades of WASR's out there, if you get one of the nicer ones, you're in good shape.

Not into the AK fold, but if you go AR I would go either Colt 6920 $1250 or Bravo Company AR from G&R Tatical. Can get the BCM for a few hundred less than the colt IF you can find one. Other ARs to check out would be Daniel Defense or S&W (esp with the 5 free mags).

Stay away from DPMS and esp. Olympic.

If you get an AR check out the Magpul stuff love my Magpul furnture.

I got a new Bushmaster AR, 16 inch barrel, detachable carry handle. I have a red dot, light, forward grip and some rails coming for it. I'll post pics when it's finished.

My only problem now is lack of ammo! Walmart yeilded me a couple of value packs last night, but I'll have to check around for more.

Next up, range or club membership somewhere, as my usual range in VT is no longer available to me.

Thanks again for all the advice.
