I bought a used M&P9c over the weekend. It's been raining non stop for days so I haven't been able to go out shooting, ( yes I know I need to join a club with an indoor range) but I did want to get a better feel for carrying. So I loaded up a mag, and went to rack the slide, and the round kinda got jammed in the feed ramp. I got it free with my knife and tried again. Same problem. Once I got home I switched ammo and tried again, slightly better, but still getting caught up. tried different mags too.

I then tried some FMJ rather than hollow points, they seem to rack a bit better however if I drop the mag and then rack the slide to clear the round it gets jammed it there really good. I've tried the ammo in my full size M&P without any issue.

Any thoughts on the problem or how to fix?

Thanks in advance.

When you pull the slide back and then let it go forward are you sling-shotting it (pulling it all the way back then letting go) or riding the slide forward (holding it to slow the slide down)?

I was trying to slow it down at first, but even if i let it go full speed it get's hung up some times.

Lock the slide back, insert the mag and hit the slide release. If it chambers the round your good
what about the ejection problem?

MAke sure there's no recoil buffer installed or anything like that

sorry i'm a noob, not really sure what that is. I don't see anything I don't have in my full size M&P though

by any chance Dtess17 are you a lefty? I have the M&P 9c and never experienced a FTE, but my brother (who is a lefty) used it the same day and had an issue similar to what you're describing at least twice that very same day- it wasn't the gun from what I could tell because I had used it flawlessly throughout the day, I think it had more to do with the way he was chambering the slide from the opposite side.

I don't know if they teach this any longer, but after stuffing rounds in your magazine, gently rap the back of the magazine on something like the sole of your shoe, in order to move all of the rounds so that they are squarely against the back of the magazine. The sort of first round hangups you have described can happen if the top round is not all the way back.

Put your rain coat on and go shoot it.

Never ride the slide.

My M&P feeds and shoots everything.

yeah good point, I'll try to make some time tomorrow. Rain won't kill me.

Right handed.

I'll try that and see if anything changes

sorry to hear about your problem. i've had no problems feeding mine fmj. i wish you were closer, i would have you at my club to try shooting it.

the fmj feeds in ok, but if i needed to clear the round to pass someone the gun it's getting jammed up.

I'm sure this is a silly little issue, because the full size M&P is perfect, but i don't want to get rid of it until i know the compact is in perfect working order

Have you cleaned it thoroughly since you got it?

Clean and lube, then see if the problem still exists or changes in any way.

Cleaned it as soon as I got it home.
Round count was 150-200 IIRC.

Going to try and shoot later today when I get home.

it's still cherry then.

i'd say shoot it w / good ammo.

i had an issue with my former M&P9c with some cheap "range safe" ammo. i was nervous because it was during the first 150 rounds. i then switched to Remington UMC green box and WWB and it was fine.

thing ate any and every round after... took it to 1200 rounds real quick!

my M&P 40 hasn't broke 500 rounds, but is also a chow hound.

Well I know it's weeks later, but I finally had the time, ammo, and weather to get out and shoot.

I had a few problems with maybe the first 20 rounds. FTE, and a few FTL.
By the end of the day gun was running just fine. Maybe got 150-180 rounds through her.

I'm a happy camper now.

the M&P is a great firearm. i polished the feed ramp on mine right when i got it. i got mine brand new, ran about 800 rounds through it before i traded it for my glock, and i never had a single issue.

maybe get fancy with a dremel and some semichrome?
