As the title states I am looking for a new .22lr rifle. I have no preference as to semi auto or bolt action. I am not looking for an AR style, GSG or any other look a likes having an identity crisis. As for my budget I would like to keep it under $500 preferable under $400. I have a Marlin model 60 right now that has been more than reliable for thousands of rounds especially for the very few times I have cleaned it. However it is starting to get tired and the sights aren't very good and the scope mount sucks. So I want something with good solid adjustable open sights and scope mount. I am not 100% sure I will be putting a scope on it I just want it as an option. I know you can't go wrong with a good old 10/22 and I was strongly considering getting one. The fact you can customize them almost as much as an AR is nice too but before I went out and got one I figured I would tap the infinite wisdom of NES. So let me know what you think.

Check out the CZ line of rim fires. Great guns in your price range. I have a 452 that is very accurate.

The Savage MKII is another good bolt for cheaper money.

Check out rimfirecentral.com if it's not there it probably doesn't exist.

dont doubt yourself.. you answered your own question. the 10/22 is the way to go. whether you wanna plink or go for an all out customized tack driver, its as versatile as they come. good luck

I don't own a 10/22, but several of my friends do and they love them. The incredible supply of after market parts is also a big plus.

I have one of these, early model. Very fun to shoot sights are so so but better than most factory iron sights.
They can be pricey, I scored mine through a estate sale. Mine is pre BDL fancy wood.

sometimes finding older models that most younger shooters call old crapy guns can be jut as fun. I have several marlin 60s, glenfields, sears branded 22s
Im still looking for a good deal on a tube fed boltaction.

I have a 10/22 VLEB. Couldn't be happier. Fun and accurate. Slap a Primary Arms M3 clone red dot on it and have fun.

So I had planed on letting this thread run for a bit to get peoples thoughts but found a unfired 10/22 from a friend of a friend and the price was to good to refuse. It is a carbine with a stainless metal and cheep-o synthetic stock. It is a newer model with the extended mag release which I was happy about. Well I guess its time to start a new thread with some after market pars questions.

Thanks for the help
