Osprey defence 416 gas piston conversion

Nope. I have a STAG ARMS M-4 clone. And works fine, but the absents of a gas piston system I would say is the only big flaw of the AR platform. For $300.00 to make your AR a more reliable platform sparked my interest. But I know what your thinking if my rifle works fine already, then why fix it? Just curious I guess.

Any idea if it will fit under a Troy rail system and weather it will work with any gas block? I like the idea simply to lessen the need for cleaning.

It says all over the site they're only selling to military and law enforcement still. This will basically eliminate all the black gunk that blows into the bolt and chamber area through the gas tube. You have to clean the new parts though, just not sure how often. Looks like it won't fit with float tubes though.

The biggest drag against all the gas piston systems is that there's no universality. No guarantee that parts will fit with them installed. If the manufacturer goes belly up, you're screwed on replacement parts.

Good point. I think that the piston system is much better for a military weapon than the gas impingement method now in use. My civilian ARs work just fine and I don't see any real advantage to justify the expense. If I were taking the gun to war, I would have a different opinion.

Exactly. Piston operation has its merits for sure, but without some sort of standardized system, I'm staying far away.

They're starting to pop up everywhere, bushmaster has one and I have seen at least 2 more kits besides that. Maybe the upcoming military bid will produce something new that has a piston system... something that isn't the ugly sig. [thinking] There was one at state line last week and I just wasn't impressed... the fore-end looks like it belongs on a super soaker.

The Bushmaster is actually made by POF-USA.

EDIT: Bushmaster sells a complete upper that's made by POF-USA. I'm not sure who makes their conversion kit.
