So after much help from many of you on my Non-Polymer .40 or .45 post I am between the P229 and the P220. I am going to shoot both of them again this weekend. As this will primarily be a range and home defense weapon, I am planning on a Light/Laser accessory. Right now I am leaning towards the Streamlight TLR-2.

Can you guys and gals that have a P229 or P220 with a light or laser or both post up some pics and your thoughts on the accessory you have.

Much appreciated!

I do not have this particular setup, but have heard good things about the light/laser hybrid for work in low-light. If you're not carrying it, I wouldn't hesitate to go in that direction.

Good to know. I have also been looking at the Sig STL-900L as it is cheaper but not sure about the buttons vs the rocker switch or the quality of the STL-900L vs the TLR-2. Any input would be welcome!

I have an STL-900L, mostly because I got it cheap. It does the job. I do think the LED could be brighter though. Also, the laser ends up throwing two spots on the target where one spot is dimmer than the other. The reason is due to how it goes through the reflector of the light portion. This isn't a big deal as the 2nd spot is significantly dimmer, but the design could have been better.

I strongly suspect the TLR-2 is a better unit, but I haven't handled one to be able to compare.

I have read that about the STL-900L but if you look at Sig's website the picture of the STL-900L show the laser and the light now being separated so the laser no longer emits through the light lens. http://www.sigsauer.us/SigStore/ShowProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=26&productid=285 Kind of makes you wonder if that isnt a admission that the previous design was flawed?

The thing about the STL-900L that is kind of a deal breaker for me is the separate on/off switch for the laser. I like the ability to have the momentary switch for both the light and laser offered on the TLR-2.

Problem solved! Yes, that's a new design.

Don't mock me, but I bought a Veridian laser-light. I got sucked into green lasers.

It's actually pretty nice. It fits my 229 well, and for an HD setup it's fine. The battery doesn't last as long as I'd like, though.

There is a lot of debate about red vs green. I'll stay away from that. I have lasers in both colors.

I can post a pic tonight if you want.

I would not buy any of Sig's non-gun products, including lights and lasers. You will not get a product of acceptable quality.

A pic would be great. I did look at that option actually but it appeared as thought the assembly was pretty tall from top to bottom. And I kind of liked how the TLR-2 and the STL-900L didnt protrude below the trigger guard as much.

EDIT: I just realized its the X5L Gen 1 that is taller than the others, the X5L Gen 2 is actually slightly smaller than the TLR-2 and the STL-900L which could be a big plus for me as it may keep the light short of the muzzle. The X5L Gen 2 may be a strong choice!

I have Gen 1. The Gen 2 looks really great. Probably will be hard to get, since it was released recently. Pics of the 229 and 226 (which has the same dimensions as the 220).
