Hello Everyone,

Hope all is well -
I would like some input concerning the round count threw my P320 compact. Currently is has approximately 8,000 to 9,000 rounds threw it with no failures. It shoots great but after purchasing a new subcompact and comparing it to the compact I noticed the recoil/slide spring has less compression. Is it time for a new recoil spring? Should anything else be replaced?

Thank you for the time -
Sincerely,

Ken

I don't know about the P320, but for the traditional P Series pistol, the recommendation is to over haul and replace most springs after thee years or 5,000 rounds. If you've put 8-9k rounds on any recoil spring, I'd say it's time break open the piggy bank and get a new spring.

Yep. 5K rounds is the time swap out that recoil spring.

Someone here may correct me, but I believe the smaller gun with the lighter slide should have a stiffer spring to compensate for the lighter slide. Otherwise the slide bangs even harder against the stop.

When I got my little LC9s I was surprised that it's spring is as stiff as my full sized XD-45 and noticeably stiffer than my S&W 6906 9mm with heavy slide.

ETA: if you replace the spring, let us know if it's stiffer.

Sig's recommended schedule is to replace the RSA after 5k rounds.

usually one can see if the RSA is getting weak because when the gun is super dirty it has trouble going fully into battery.

that being said, my P320 armorer instructor said his own personal P320 has ~30k rounds without a single replacement. he was letting others shoot it just to rack up the round count to see what go down first. of course that's an n = 1. personally i would swap in a new RSA sometime between now and 10k rounds.

Thank You everyone for the rapid responses. After a little research I found that other handguns have a larger k value in subcompacts so my comparison between the compact and subcompact was probably useless. Sig currently is out of stock therefore, I found aftermarket companies are manufacturing stainless or inconel rods using 1911 springs but they are for the full sized frames. If Sig does not get the recoil spring assembly in stock soon I will have a friend machine me a guide rod.

Once again I appreciate the input.
Sincerely,

Ken

The compact slides use a dual RSA whereas the full size slide uses a single spring RSA. So i think your only bet will be to get a sig replacement.

did you try calling Sig directly by phone? If you need an RSA thats the only way to do it. Also I dont think youre going to actually do any damage to your P320 if continue to shoot it....it should be fine even w an old RSA.

Very interesting, I did not know the full and compact had different spring geometry. Thank you for the information.

It still functions? It's probably fine.

Yes it is and I suppose I will keep firing it until I feel the slide is hammering back or I find unusual wear.

Once again, Thank you everyone. Much appreciated!
