Is this the right area for "gun chat?"

Does anyone enjoy these discontinued pistols? I do. I wish they were still being made. There seem to be plenty of West German Police trade-ins kicking around, but its a bummer that no new commercial pieces are being made.

I'd love to try one, but I take issue with a pistol that heats up enough after 100 rounds to burn your hand.

I bought mine at the old Lew Horton's retail store in downtown Framingham for $750 (a Lot of $ at the time). It fits my hand better than any of my other pistols and is way more accurate than I am. I used it at the LFI Intro to Combat Handgun course - the HK ran perfectly - it was just hotter than h*ll after the first few stages of fire. It wasn't designed for prolonged use (unless you have a thin nomex glove to wear). All my other firearms are tools to me like a drill or a wrench; the HK is something I'll pass down to my son rather than ever sell or trade away.

I have a P7M8... its the only thing I have approaching a safe queen, although I take it out and shoot it a few times a year, and even carry it once in a great while.

The only thing I really hate about the P7M8 is the high cost of the magazines it uses. They're easily $50+ a pop and are somewhat rare, although I've managed to accumulate
another 4 in addition to the 2 that came with the gun I bought.

The guns themselves are less rare than the magazines are. [laugh]

Absolutely love my P7M13! Too bad they did not produce the .45 ACP version (in greater quanities than 7!?!).

I've been carring my USP45c alot lately, though. Something about the piece of mind .45ACP 230 grain JHP +P delivers.

Love most of the HK's(except the look of the VP70z, real ugly, but shoots like a dream).

The P7M10 (40 cal) looked good on paper, but the slide was god dang HEAVY - no wonder they never went forward with the 45 version.

I picked up one at a gun show several years ago for $850. I think the dealer screwed up as the best price I'd seen on one was in the grand area for several months.

While I perfer a .45 ACP for carry, that P7 has to have the best trigger I'ver ever pulled.

Thats like the pricing for a police trade in. Was it new commercial?

grade A P7 PSP's can be had for under $800 (if you are in a free state). The ones I have seen are basically new...

every year seems to be the last year the P7M8 will be made - HK keeps cranking them out though. I have heard that the last date series was assembled with NOS parts and that no new machining was done.

the ergo's on the P7 are almost perfect for me. As others have commented, they do heat up with rapid fire to the point they are getting uncomfortable after about 8 mags worth. And as with most things HK, magazines are expensive. You can buy all the mags you want at 89.95 each though!

Yeah, those "grade A PSPs" are the refurb trade-ins that I'm talking about. Nothing wrong with them.

I see you've got a Mk23 there. Reminds me of when I had my USP Tactical with the Knights can. Thats one thing it would have been nice to bring to MA when I moved. I don't miss owning suppressors. Much.

you can buy HK threaded barrels for the HK45 and 45C - guess what I am getting soon as I punch out of MA???

Got two here, a P7 and a P7M8, neither a refurb but rather near mint specemins. My favorite auto-pistol. I can certainly see the reasoning behind thier discontinuation though. The tooling, etc for these was aging and the costs keping the prices rising. face it, they're not for everyone and even those that do want one won't pay the price for 'em. Very small market because of that. Combine all this and it just makes sence to end the model's run. There's A LOT of them out there sitting idel and especially with the last bunch of Saxony refurb P7's there's even more. Still a LOT still available for very good prices. Before this influx they'd be jumped on for under $800 now they sit idle for the same price or less. That shows the small market still. I'll likely get one of the refurbs just for fun and hoepfully find a good price on a P7M13 or even better a P7M10 but my quest for a complete set of each of these squeezers is waned considerably. Mainly because I don't care to spend $3000+ for the P7K3 pkg just to sit on the shelf as a safe queen.

Hell, I don't need another. For awhile I had 4. It seems to be that way, you discover a new firearm, and BAM. I had 7 ARs at one point. Down to only the Stoner. I had 4 M1 Carbines, down to only the Rock-Ola. I had 4 Glocks, I'd prolly only have the G17 if I wasn't interested in 10mm.

The P7M8 is my favorite carry gun ever. It's an odd little beast, but it works for me. More accurate than it needs to be, fits my hand great, disappears in an IWB holster. I have occasionally thought about picking up a P7M10, but the price usually puts a stop to that. I bought my P7 new sometime in the early 90's??? maybe - my only complaint would be heat management.

I have a standard p7m8. It is absolutely my favorite gun that I would never sell.
Yes, mags are expensive, I just bough a couple from CDNN for @ 60/ea.
But, great gun, great pointer, great trigger.

Is there a resource online to decipher the model numbers and serial number to determine what can legally be transfered into the state? I shot a "squeeze" on my 1st day at the range, and I've always wanted one since!

love them at one time I had 3 m-13's an m-10 and 4 M-8's. I only have two M-8's now and will keep them forever.

The date code is on the frame, right above the trigger guard on the P7's. It's a two letter marking, and here is the key.

A=0, B=1, C=2, D=3, E=4, F=5, G=6, H=7,I=8, K=9

The P7M8 is not on the list, so the "date codes" don't matter much. (Only
guns which are listed on the roster can be considered "exempt" from handgun compliance if they were made before 10/21/98. )

Dealers have them from time to time but they're usually papered exempt (eg, they were already shown to be in MA before/on the cutoff date) and they
usually cost a lot of money.

Mike, they are expensive everywhere . . . just obscenely so in MA. [wink]

They are a great gun, just wear Nomex gloves when shooting . . . and if using IWB holster, Nomex undies and pants are in order! [laugh] That's why I sold you my IWB holster for the P7M8 IIRC. [wink]
