It was snowing all weekend, I was bored, so I painted my Walther P22.

I used krylon ultra flat khaki.

Yes its regular rattle can krylon paint.

The only steps I did to prep the polymer frame was to thoroughly clean off all oil or other residue, then dried with compressed air. After spraying 4 light coats, I let it cure for 3 days before reassembling.

The fore grip of my AR was done the same way over a year ago. There are a couple small nicks in that so far. Its not an exact color match to the Cavalry arms stock and Magpul grip, but It's close enough for me.

nope no clear, and its 'ultra-flat' for a nice matte finish.

It also says on the can 'made with Fusion for plastic paint technology' they claim it bonds to (among other things) plastic with out sanding or priming.

I would be afraid of it chipping and scratching over time. Brake cleaner might take off the paint but you will run the risk of damaging the plastic and turning it grey. I learned this the hard way with my mosquito and gun scubber.

Wow looks good. The only thing I don't like about painted guns (including ARs) is that only SOME parts are painted. Looks like a nice job though.

2 years later

here is an up date on how the paint is holding up

It has been shot about once a month over 2 years. Not sure how many rounds, I could guess 1 - 2000, and cleaned after each use. You can notice the paint worn off on some sharp edges, also near the take-down lever and where the trigger touches the inside of the guard. We can assume if this were used with a holster the wear on the finish would be more dramatic.
