Ok, this will never happen, but even so....

What if a group of MA License Holders wanted to own some particular Handgun, that was not on THE LIST. And it seemed to them, but for the lack of Testing, it could be.

Is there anything stopping them from banding together on a Group Buy and PAYING for the Testing themselves ?

I'm just thinking spread out among 200 or so Individuals the cost might be affordable.

Just dreaming....

Last I read the test was $5-10K per firearm tested. and they needed 20 guns tested.... so its about a $200K for the tests, not including the hardware.....

again, 'heard' the costs here.... no evidence for this....

Hopefully someone knows.

$5K / 100 would be just $50 bucks each. And I'm betting most manufacturers just might drop the price $50 on a Group Buy of 100 Handguns.

And it would have to be more like (5) guns than (20) !

Of course if the Handgun FAILED, things would suck.

Another angle would be to lobby the manufacturer so that they can see the demand...

I'm sure that's already being done...but just throwing in my 2cents....

That will MAYBE get you on the EOPS list, but then you have to get on the AG 'list' as well. And I can't imagine what kind of bribe that takes.

BTDT. I worked with a manufacture getting guns lab tested for the original roster as well as applying to get some on the target roster, and used the services of a highly qualified attorney who accepts guns as legal fees to do the actual application. The cost is well under the $5K for the lab, and it does not require 20 guns. The CA test requires 5 guns, with one forfeited to the crown. It's a fairly simple matter to consolidate the MA and CA testing into one operation to save on testing fees and units of inventory damaged.

A problem is that even if a gun gets on the list, there is the pesky AG's shadow list to worry about.

I believe it was Four Seasons that offered les Baer or Ed brown to pay half of the cost. I want to say it was on their website under guns yo cannot buy in mass.

I hate FS because of that page, it's a FUDDs wet dream. OMGZZZZ ILLEGAL GUNZ.

And no, we will never be able to have cool guns OP. I respect Glock for not dealing with this shithole state.

Yes, you are.

This. I suspect that for some companies (Springfield for example, they could easily afford the process) it's not just about the money. It's also the principal of contributing to the silliness of it all.

Or, they just paid attention to what happened with Glock... submitted the guns for testing, got on the EOPSS roster, and yet the AGs office still deemed their firearms "unsafe" for us simpletons.

That is precisely why many of the companies never submitted to MA, even though they jump thru essentially the same hoops for CA.

To the OP's basic question:

NOT possible!

For testing, a lot of engineering (metallurgy) info has to be submitted by mfr to the test lab, this isn't info that a dealer or gun owner would ever have and thus the premise of this thread is not feasible. A lab could reverse engineer the product, but the cost would be astronomical to the submitter. I also think that either/both GCAB and/or Sec. of Public Safety would refuse to add a gun submitted by anyone other than the mfr (political issue).
