If anyone is looking for a handgun in Western MA, look no further than Personal Defense Specialist, Inc in South Hadley, MA. Joe Cartabona is a knowledgeable , friendly guy who loves what he does and was oh so helpful with my first pistolpurchase... a Sig P226...

While the shop may be small, it is well stocked and he can get goodies overnight or within a few days no problem. Prices are fair and the personal service is worth a few extra bucks IMHO.

If you get a chance, stop by Tues - Sun Noon to 7pm...

I have been going to Joe's shops (this is his third location, everytime he moves he upgrades his facilities) since about 1995. Everything MailmanX says is true. Joe is the type of FFL who is very supportive of his customer and works to help the customer make the best possible purchase for the customer's needs.

I strongly recommend that anyone in this area check PDS.

I went to PDS today for the first time and I really enjoyed myself there. The handgun prices may be a little higher than what I'm used to (hard to say for sure since his stock seemed a lot different than what I'm used to) and the long gun selection was really slim but that's because he seems to really specialize in just what he claims- personal defense. He had an almost exclusive offering of concealable guns or full sized handguns that one would be likely to rely on in a defensive scenario (He had only a couple 22's and maybe one single shot revolver). The best part for me was Joe's almost encyclopedic knowledge of Mass gun laws and the events that led to the creation of those laws. He doesn't seem like the type to rely on someone else's word on a legal question- he would go to a law library and research it. He was helpful and engaging even though I told him I was only there to look for a holster. Thanks Joe! I'm sure I'll be back soon!
