I desperately need to pick up a pocket pistol for summer, not a fan of bodyguards, would be if they didn't have the laser. and don't want a 1911 sig 238 although i love to shoot it. and tried Kahr , and couldn't get used to it, and it hurt my hand

so money aside since all are around the same price..

1. Kel-Tec P3AT -shot one, and did just fine. found a guy selling one for 175

2. Ruger LCP - i hear fit and finish is way better than keltec, Mostly I hear the ruger has the best dependability record? vs the keltec but has a really crappy trigger?

3. Other - Throw some sames out there to go try out and research.

The Kahr hurt my hand as well, it's those hard plastic "serrations" that leave track marks all over your palms... It's like getting hit in the hand with a pineapple every shot. I put on a cheapo rubber Talon Grip and now no pain. Try a Kahr with the Talon if you can, your welcome to try mine if your in the area [smile].

I'd suggest looking into the new Beretta Nano, since it's got a kind of a smoothed-out snag-free thing going for it, but good luck finding one in MA. [frown]

I was going to recommend the PM9, until I read your post (after I voted). I'll add a recommendation for a J-frame with Bianchi speed strips. It won't be a gun to shoot for fun with +P defense ammo, but it's fun to shoot with .38SPL wadcutters.

Like someone else stated, the Kahr PM9 becomes a lot better with the Hogue slip-on grip on it.

I'd probably check out the S&W Shield if I were looking for a smaller gun but it isn't really a Pocket Gun per se. The Nano would probably be perfect, but alas, hard to find in MA. The Kahr is a bit snappy if you don't mind that, and a great pistol.

LC9 vs Sheild

The Shield is the same size as the Kahr PM9.

A revolver with a shrouded or bobbed hammer is the only pistol that you can fire from a pocket more than once. I'm still waiting for someone to make a five shot 45 ACP SS snubby that takes full moon clips. S&W are you listening?

Guys,

Maddie is a very very very slender girl. And the times that I've seen her, she doesn't wear baggy clothing. Hence why the choices are a P3AT or LCP. I can't imagine anything thicker/larger will fit into her tiny girl jean pockets. Just an FYI [wink]

Maddie,

Here's a vote for the Keltec P3AT. I got a used one for my brother for his birthday and it's his go-to pocket carry gun. It's been 100% reliable and just works. I paid $225 for it... can't beat it for the money.

I'd also vote for the Kahr P380. I have one (got it NIB) for my go-to pocket gun. It had a few hiccups during its manufacturer recommended 200rnd break-in period but has been 100% since. I agree that the grip checkering is VERY aggressive and is uncomfortable during a longer range session... but honestly... I lump it in with the airweight j-frames... and don't expect it to be comfy to shoot. As long as I know that my particular gun is reliable and I can put the 6+1 rounds on target when I need to... then that's all I need. When I do shoot it at the range I try to keep the sessions on the shorter side [wink]

Anyway, if the uncomfy grip checkering of the P380 is the only thing about it you don't like... you can always cut a slim section of bicycle inner tube (for a road bike) and slip it on over the gun's grip. Problem solved.

Though, if you already like the P3AT and can snag one for $175 (almost 1/4 the price of a P380)... I think it's a no-brainer. Great gun.

I have no experience with any of the other 380's so I can't give any other recommendations.

I've got the P3AT, with a slip on Hogue rubber grip to make it hurt less when shooting it. It has been
reliable for me, but it's not particularly pleasant to shoot, and the trigger pull is kind of cheesy.

So I feel like I don't practice with it as much as I should. Are you sure the Sig P238 won't work for you? Is it the safety that makes you dislike it? I have the feeling that the good trigger might make up for the need to use a safety. Not wanting a 1911 style setup a perfectly reasonable objection, but I'm envious of the good trigger pull, and ergonomics of the P238...

Just bought a ruger today, $300 ,not as cheap as a keltec but i can buy trigger mods and custom sights for it

I normally wouldnt buy sight unseen but its a keltec exactly. And im sure if i dont like it i can easily find a keltec for cheaper.

that's a great deal. I would skip on sights. One of the beauties of the lcp is that there are no sights to get caught on your pocket. The factory ones are plenty good for the pistol's intended purpose.

Seecamp. It is a thing of beauty; a gem of machining. Easier to conceal than any other that I have seen to date.

If you find one a Walther PP in 32 auto. Bought one for the wife years ago and for short money, wish I bought 2 now. Was West German police trade in and it came with holster 2 mags and instructoins in German and best of all it fed hollow points. Yes I know 32 auto is a whimpy cartridge but no one I know has stepped up to be shot with it.

Women's clothing isn't made to "conceal" a house key in those tiny pockets. Guys design women's clothing and understand that us guys like looking at women in form-fitting clothes, thus no practical pockets exist.

Only solutions to that are:

Cargo pants/shorts (exterior pockets can conceal a gun easily), or
Find a holster for the waistband (IWB) that fits you and the clothing style you wear (you might have to wear blouses untucked as a mod).
