Plymouth PD yanks an LTC

Being stopped in MA, your an idiot if you tell them you have a gun without them asking first.

When they run your name the system returns if you have an LTC, so they know.

MA or NH I tell them, my wallet and my gun aren't that far apart, I see no reason to risk a misunderstanding. Keeping that information to myself isn't worth dying over.

Thinking on this- seeing as how the state couldn't provide a witness for this hearsay, wouldn't it have denied OP a fundamental right to face an accuser?

It's an administrative hearing, not a trial, the PD can say anything they want, present any information they want, in any way they want. No proof required, nothing you can do about it, and you don't even get to ask them questions. The real catch is that the judge will often make a finding of fact based on the hearing, which they will point to as "proof" later.

You mean like when you get a speeding ticket but instead of the cop that pulled you over you get a "representative" from the PD that was no where near the incident at the time?

At least that's how my town does it last I heard.

I guess you didn't actually read what I wrote. He's in Haverhill. Already an hour plus commute to Boston at rush hour. Plaistow NH is 3 minutes from his house.

If the decision was between Brookline and Salem NH, there are a lot of valid reasons to live in Brookline.
However, somewhere like Salem or any of the NH towns along 93 is actually a SHORTER commute into Boston than Haverhill.

Also, there really is a free lunch because NH taxes less and provides fewer services. Less Government = less waste.

MA has the 20th highest total tax burden of any state. (combined state and local taxes). NH has the 49th highest.

MA is 8.55%
NH is 5.63%.

That's a 2.92% difference.

So for a family that has a total income of 120k/yr, it's $3500 in their pocket.

As an aside, to MA's credit, they have actually been ranking better over the years.
If he wants to carry everyday he needs a non res MA license. If he works in MA he pays a portion of MA tax anyway.. Plus he lengthens his commute to some degree I'm not seeing the win in that

I ran the numbers on state and local tax burden when I retired. Although it varies from year to year, my numbers came closer to 12%-17%
Income tax
Sales tax (and going up going to tax prescriptions )
Gasoline tax
Meals and hotel excise tax (and going up. Healy gave OK to raise local taxes on meals and hotels)
Auto excise tax
Real Estate tax
Various fees on gas, electric, cable

The year we bought a new car, I figured our tax burden was OVER 17%

YMMV

That's how it works. Nothing wrong with that.

Well, it depends on how much time is left on his resident license. (I wont get into this, this has already been covered 900 times elsewhere) even nowadays the chelsea malthusian drill can
be done remotely unless they rescinded that.

If the guy is already near south haverhill/bradford etc he's already in the middle of nowehre vs boston. So him moving out to like Plaistow or Kingston etc is basically a no brainer. You're not really adding that much pain at that point because you're already into the inconvenient options.

It would be like someone who owns guns that still lives in like Dunstable. Like why the f*** would you do that? [rofl]

I would forfeit my right to carry in mass if that was literally the only obstacle to not being here. It's not really worth that much.

Lets be perfectly honest, that stupid f***ing card... most of us have it so you can buy shit. Without the card its a pain in the ass to buy guns or ammo. But if you live in NH? you can do both without much of a problem. Carry? an expired LTC is only a non felony civil infrac on an unlawful carry charge in MA. (unless they removed that in the new law, but I didn't see that). So even if he chose to ride half dirty here with a boring gun he's not really risking much.

I've been stopped twice since I've lived in MA. Neither time did anyone ask about firearms.

A friend of mine is a cop, he's also a gun nut. He told me one day he pulled over a guy who announced, "I have my LTC and am carrying a gun".
My friend replied to him "I've got one too. Let's say we both keep them holstered and we will both have a decent day". he let the guy go with a warning.
I keep my conversations brief, which makes it easier to avoid certain questions. I've been asked before if I have large sums of money or illegal guns or drugs. It's an easy question to answer when you are carrying a "legal" firearm

Once we go back, the Plymouth Police Department take back the agreement they made with me a year prior

[rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

a sad way to laugh, but, what kind of an other outcome could possibly be expected here, after the: "called the office and spoke to Detective Brian Pierce for about 25 minutes".

jesus christ. a lesson well learned, i guess. 'are you sure you are done talkin" now? :)

it is truly a sad story as when whole society is built on snitching, people just find it to be perfectly logical to snitch on themselves as well, and then wonder of why and what gets done to them.

I grew up in Plymouth. Despite having lived in many different places in the state and country, Plymouth PD will always be the biggest piece of shit department I ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

Don’t get me wrong, even back in the day, there were a couple of cool cops working there, but most of them were bullies, drunks, wife beaters, steroid / coke heads, etc.

Just in a Plymouth PD ?

Cop took a pay cut and transferred from Plymouth to the town I work for. Had her on a few details. Jesus Mary the stories of the crap that went on down there.

You get to ask questions of the licensing officer or his/her representative, but not of the sources (which can be anonymous) that provided the info used against you.

FIFY.

Incorrect. The LO wasn't even there. The departments lawyer was the only one and he had as pile confusing paperwork and reports (nothing sworn to), and he made a bunch of statements, not under oath. There was no one to question. We were not allowed to question the lawyer. All we (myself and my attorney, Steven Foley RIP) could do was make conflicting statements, Guess who the judge believed.

Wow - I've never heard of that one before. Thanks for the info.

Well I can't say I was that specific in our messaging, but I am surprised Steven didn't mention it to you. Well, live and learn. Glad I could contribute to the general knowledge.
