With the Gubna of RI planning to ramrod a ban of sales of "assault rifles", I'm wonder if I should preemptively purchase an AR15. Ive always wanted one, gawd knows why, but have been putting it off.
My limited retirement budget is one reason, so even if I cant afford one right now, i could buy a lower receiver, which would make me technically in possesion before the ban.
Any other Rhodeislanders thinking or doing the same?

Depending on how the law is written…If RI puts in one of those had to be in the state prior to xx/xx/xxxx then that is potentially a gold mine. And you are able to do private sales.
At least for short med term.

I believe all this will get overturned by SCOTUS. But, it may be a very long time.

I would say it all depends what garbage they pass and what they think they can impose on the people of RI. I’d buy if it was something you always wanted. In RI you can still buy a budget AR at actual retail, then upgrade the parts as you want/need to. On the other hand I’d probably buy a decent AK first but thats not your question.

Nobody is buying AK's at panic prices, they do AR's so buy those. As stated above, stripped lowers are cheap and better yet they go down as "firearms" because they can become either rifles or pistols and then it's up to you to obey the nonsense of shoulder thingies that go up.

You should buy 4 as close to the ban as you can guess.
After the ban, sell 3 for 33% more than you paid for them.
The one you keep is technically "free"

Why buy anything at panic prices. And I like AK’s better than AR’s but thats just my opinion and right now they can still buy AR pistols and rifles in RI at regular prices.

Interesting things are already happening before RI goes full Massachusetts with towns like Lincoln and Glocester declaring themselves 2A sanctuaries. I don't think there are any gun stores in Lincoln or Glocester but it will be cool if a town or city with a gun store declares themselves a 2A sanctuary because I would love to see that play out in court

Yeah, we're already limited to 10 rd mags in RI. Plus, they enacted a pretty strict gun storage law. As I understand, that happened just a couple days after the gubna attended a function at a local hunting and fishing club and was snubbed by everyone there.

I was thinking as an alternative to one of those scary looking semi auto weapons of war, I could get a nice semi auto hunting rifle. I understand someone makes 10 rd mags for Remington 742s...

Not sure what I would do with them, but I feel strongly about excersizing my 2a rights.

You trolling to sell your very over priced lowers to a new guy? The rest of us already passed on “your deal”. [dance]
I'm not trying to sell him anything.

I don't work for Noveske.

He should buy lots of their Gen 4 lowers, though.

He could become as happy as I am after the ban if he stocks up.

Well... not really. Or you wouldn't be worrying about getting 10-round mags for "alternatives to" the rifles you're entitled to own. You'd be grabbing standard-cap mags and slapping them into ARs and AKs, then daring McKee to come and take them

At least be honest. You're looking for ways to stay legal. Many of us here are no longer interested in that shit.

The way the law is written double barrel shotguns are going to be assault weapons. As are some revolvers. This law is out of control.

You definitely should. I would recommend buying a handful of lowers. You can get them 40-50 bucks apiece. Then you can build whatever you want whenever you want after the ban.

Get a complete rifle if you ever pull it out of the safe it will at least be useful.

Yet so sad that ita come to this

So we fail to recognize what our elected government is doing is the same the British had planned when deciding to march to “get the guns”
