Help me please, I live in western MA and have a preban 16 inch AR15. I wish to have the barrel cut down to 14.5 inches and an extended A2 birdcage flash hider perm mounted up on it who local can perform such an operation? With the extended birdcage fixed forever in place this would give the rifle a barrel of 16.1 inches total (perfectly legal by my understanding).

I'm in Westfield, MA and would prefer somebody who is familiar with AR15 weapons.

Thanks,
smitty

AMB - thanks for the heads up, I'll give Remsport a try.

Another_David - Why would i wanna do such a thing? It will make my rifle 1.5 inches shorter & as a bonus I can use the bayonet lug. There was a reason that uncle sam buys the M4's with 14.5 inch barrels not 16 inchers.

You mean there's a reason other then making it carbine length?

The A2 flash hider adds, maybe, 3/4" past the thread. If you don't make at least 16," you will have an SBR. Do you have the Federal paperwork for one?

ETA: Do you mean the 1.5" flash hider usually placed on the 14.5" barrel to keep it legal?

If you go the 14.5 with the extended FH, you will have to Pin/weld the hider to prevent any NFA issues. I think this severely limits your options in the future if you want to change things like handguards and gas blocks.

I'd personally stick with a 16" barrel and a mid-length gas system. I picked up on of these from Bravo company a few months back and it is great!

I agree. If your barrel has a midlength gas system, leave it alone. If it's a carbine cut it.

Thanks for the reply, guys. I like the article about carbine gas system with a 16 inch barrel. I know that I must pin the elongated flash hider in place or it's an NFA item (SBR). I have called Remsport Inc. (a local place) and I think that I will have them do it for me. I called them today and it should be no problem with the job. I don't plan on doing anymore mods to the upper / rifle. And overall the rifle wil be long enough for the mod to be a good. I've got about 2K (optics & surfire scout light included) in the rifle build and want it se up just right. I almost went with a gas piston setup, but decided against it. I wanted irons sights on the rifle and still wanted a 2/3's flat top upper (I used a Rock river UTE 2 upper on my preban lower).
Thanks for the help guys.
