Question For Gun Collectors (Speculators)

It was a 4" gun.

I got it to use for SSR in IDPA. A year after I got it, they changed the rules to move moon clip guns out of SSR.
The other reason I dumped it was that I had started reloading and was not planning to reload .40 S&W.

I bought a police trade in model 66. That I paid $400 with 900 rounds of .357 mag mixed SP and HP ammo.

If I held it I could have gotten more.
This was like selling a stock too soon. I paid less than $600 for it. So I was happy at the time.

My worst "sold too soon" was a gold cup I bought for $400 then sold a couple of years later for $600. Now its probably worth $1200.

If you can pick up a Colt Gold Cup / National Match for reasonable money. Thats another that will always go up and isn't dependent on laws staying sane since it only holds 8 rounds normally.

I was going to say, any 610 under $1000 is a screamer in this market.

I agree with the others, any special editions are probably not worth holding onto.

You need to find the strange guns that were poor sellers that now have a cult like following. The 610 is a prime example, what a stupid gun that shoots a limited S&W 40 cartridge only with moonclips... I have one, and I think it is one of the coolest guns I own next to the 357pd airlite titanium cylinder 41 mag revolver. Both of those are $1200-$1500 guns next to a much more useful 686 or 629 that would be $500 to $800. They both were similar prices new...

I may guess that the new Ruger 327 MAG gun maybe short lived and desirable in the future. Problem is 327 MAG isn't popular.

You've reminded me.

Any s&w 9mm revolver may be a good pick. they are great to shoot. And they are poor sellers. My guess is the current model will go out of production within a couple of years.

I have a mid 80s S&W K frame 9mm revolver. Its a blast to shoot. and runs on the second cheapest ammo you can buy.

The S&W 547 is another example of a production gun that has appreciated nicely.

Thats the K frame I own that I mentioned above. i couldn't remember the model number.

Like this and my 610 story demonstrate, you win some, you lose some. Except I don't ever plan to sell the 547. I love that it shoots 9mm, a round i can still make for less than $5.50/box. About what you'll pay for CCI Mini-Mags these days.

I do wish it had better rear sights than just a groove in the top strap. I've thought about sending it off to Richard Fletcher, my favorite revolversmith to have a rear rear sight fitted, but then fall back to thinking that the gun should be kept stock.

S&W made 6486 with a 3" barrel and a round butt. They made 3784 with a square butt and 4" barrel. I have the 4" barreled gun because I wanted a shooter, not a carry piece.

This GP100 turned out to be a nice shooter. The brass bead front sight actually looks like a little amber LED in outdoor lighting.
I haven't done any paper target accuracy shooting yet but I'm hitting metal plinking targets at 100 yards which isn't bad for a 3" barrel. I'm generally a plinker not precision shooter but at some point I'll see what kind of groups I get with it.
If I keep it long enough it will develop a nice patina, but I usually turn guns around long before that happens.
I think if Talo sticks with the 2500 unit limit it will at the very least retain it's value even after being used. I meticulously maintain my guns so it will always be clean.

I can't believe nobody has pointed out the obvious. Buy a Glock today and sell it tomorrow in Mass for double your money in one day.

Uh. You don't understand the law do you?

If you are a non-ma resident, you can't transfer it to anyone in MA without going through a dealer. Who can't transfer a glock.

So you see, there's no way to do it.

Well actually, there are THREE ways to legally do it.

1) You have a residence in MA and another in a Free state. You buy the Glock in the free state (with the intention of keeping it for yourself of course. Keep your mouth shut and intent is impossible to prove) You bring it to MA and FA10 it. Then you sell it.

2) You are a FFL in MA. You transfer the gun to yourself. Then you wait a minimum of one year (per ATF guidance, the time they want a dealer to wait before selling a gun from his personal collection. Otherwise he has to book it back into the business and sell it as a dealer). Then sell it as a non-licensee.

3) You are a MA LEO. You buy the gun through normal channels and resell it personally. With the same suggestions on intent I gave in number 1.

In all cases you would be limited to 4 sales per year. Although I wouldn't plan to approach that level in any way. Or that whole intent thing comes back. And with the definition of a straw purchase getting looser and looser its not worth being a pig over. Its a stupid thing to do even once if you are a dealer. Unless the gun is legitimately USED.

Sarcasm is lost on some people. Maybe there should be a sarcasm font.
